I've seen a few other threads about this, but nothing recently.

Everything was fine up until a few days ago.

- I have a Charter Moxi DVR.
- I have the Slingbox Classic (gray box).
- I use AT&T DSL with a 2Wire router/modem combo (came with the installation).
- Windows XP sp2 (I also have a Mac at work that I use sometimes)

Using the SlingPlayer, I get a picture from my Charter DVR, no problem.  But from both remote viewing and on my home network viewing, I can't change the channel.

Also, last week, Charter sent an upgrade to my Moxi DVR, improving the menu speed and adding more features.  I am not sure if that is related or not to my issue, but it seems like it could be.  Maybe new IR codes are needed after that upgrade?

Last night I reconnected all of the wires, played around with the IR cables and moved them around a bit, reinstalled the SlingPlayer (latest version), I even reinstalled the SlingBox and re-setup remote viewing and redid the firewall permissions.

I tried all of these things, and I'd go back and try and change the channel...but nothing.  Except for one time, I hit "guide" and the Moxi menu came up on screen, but it only worked once, and I couldn't exit the menu or do anything after that.

So, of course I thought it was an IR cord issue...so I messed with them...A LOT.  But nothing worked.

Any ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated as this is quite an annoying problem.

Thank you.

Curt

I'm having the EXACT same problem, posted a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything as well.

Doesn't make much sense.  If something changed in the IR code you should have had to change your physical remote..

You might rerun the setup and play with the IR speeds..

I've noticed the same thing Curt.  I'm a fellow Moxi user (BMC9022) and I've noticed the IR emitters simply are not working as well as they did previously.  I'm not sure if it is related to the updated 4.2 software that Moxi just released, but it may be.  I've been physically moving the emitters (I'm using the Smarthome stick-on emitters) around various places on the front of the Moxi unit to see if the response improves at all, and it has been hit or miss.  I've gone into the Sling config program and changed the IR speed, but that has no real effect.  Somewhat of a side question==> where exactly is the remote sensor on the BMC 9022?  I have them attached on the right side, but not sure if they are positioned exactly right.

Recently, my Charter MOXI DVR box has also become unresponsive.  The problem is the same as it is for every other Moxi uses in thet the channel switching is unresponsive.  I think Slingbox is negligent into looking into this problem and I am very disappointed in them as a company and technology.  There is nothing that seems to fix this problem so our options are to sell our players on EBAY.

FYI I inquired with my Moxi contact about a week ago, but I haven't heard back at this time.

What TVs do you guys have? I've read about possible IR interference from certain flat panels. Along those lines, has anyone tried testing with an IR tent? That obviously wouldn't be a permnanent solution, but it might give us more data.

The remote sensor looks to be just to the right of the LCD time panel and just to the left of the round directional pad.

I have a Pioneer 42" plasma.  But the Slingbox worked just fine next to it for months...right up until Charter upgraded their Moxi box.

Ok, this is weird.
In playing  around with the emitters, I removed the top emitter from the top of the Charter box and just tried it with the bottom one and now it seems like if I hit the "guide" button on the slingplayer, it works and it brings up the menu, and the other buttons (arrow and select buttons) only respond if I hit them repeatedly.

This tells me the top emitter has gone bad, no?  Maybe the top emitter going out renders the bottom one useless, but if I remove the top emitter, the bottom one sort of works.

Thoughts?

How close do you have the emitters?  I have used one emitter for 3 boxes by putting it at the bottom of 3 stacked boxes and had it out in front a ways..  Think about how your remote works, you don't need it right in front, if it's back a ways there's a bigger field..

I am a new user to slingbox pro with moxi 9022 and have not been able to get the ir emitter(s) working at all.  I saw cprice 12 comment and have tried  it at " the right of the LCD time panel and just to the left of the round directional pad" and no luck at all.  Which code 1 or 2 do you have to use?  I am using 1.4.0.206 slingplayer.  I am trying to use the IR emitter that came with the pro, how far away should they be?  Ideas...

Are you all using the same remote that you always have?

Is anyone using an aftermarket remote and is that still working?

sure sounds like the problem is with the upgrade but if the remote you have always used is still working that makes it hard to understand.

If hitting it repeatedly works it would seem the problem is certainly with the software of the cable box, but again, is the remote still working, and do you have to hold down the buttons on the remote longer for it to work?

I just got my slingbox pro.  My moxi remote is working just fine(I dont have an aftermarket remote) as it was before the upgrade, I have not been able to get the slingbox IR working at all since getting the slingbox pro, even double pressing.  I played for hours placing the sensors around the moxi, but usually concentrating on the LED pannel. There was two selection to pick from the moxi and I am just wondering with one may be best? Not perfect.

I did get the charter upgrade wich was version 4.1.94LR-P.160450

I spent a bunch of time trying to reposition the emitters on my Moxi BMC 9022, and ended up using only one emitter positioned right over the center of the round directional pad.  As I mentioned in my earlier post, I bought the Smarthome "stick-on" emitters so I could do this.  This seemed to generate the maximum response from the Moxi, although it definitely does seem that the unit is not nearly as responsive to the Sling remote after the most recent 4.1 software upgrade for the Moxi.  Hope this helps some of the posters on this thread.

Thanks GaryMO.  I will look for the Smarthome round stickemmiters.  Any other tips for the MOXI.

The emitters were on actual MOXI box, sticking out from the top and bottom fo the box and pointing towards the infrared port...a couple inches away or so.

I tried moving them out a little farther, and I even moved one of them up to the top of the DVD player, which sits above the MOXI box, which was about six or seven inches away.

No difference.  Still a very, very poor and almost non existant IR response.

It used to work great...until about the time of the upgrade to the MOXI box.

And my Charter MOXI remote that came with the MOXI box, works just fine.  I don't have to hold down the buttons or press them repeatedly or anything.  Works fine.  I even have a 2nd LCD touch screen universal remote that works just fine with the MOXI box.

FYI....Moxi remotes are built by Universal Electronics Incorporated (http://www.uei.com) and use a technology called XMP (previously known as twirp). Maybe this is causing slingbox some issues...

Just a status update.  I was in the AVS forum and the Moxi Messenger(post 9585) said Moxi is looking into the problem.  Also it was said by him that "Sling software version 1.3.0.176 work with Moxi 4.1 software" worked fine according to the SlingBox tech support.

July 16, 2007 9:01 PM

FWIW, My Moxi was upgrade to 4.1 this weekend. I have not noticed a difference in remote response from the older version of software.

July 16, 2007 9:43 PM

which version of the SlingPlayer were you using? Were you using the IR that came with the MOXI? Which version of MOXI do you have?
