First I had a 700wx and slingbox looked awesome on it.

Just exchanged to a Mogul by HTC. Slingbox looks like crap on it. It's all distorted and pixelated.  The only differences I can think of is The moguls screen is bigger, and it uses WM6. The 700wx is WM5.  I am using the 30 day trial on it.  I was going to buy it, but now I don't think I will.

Anyone with the same experience?

Hello, just wanted to add my 2 cents here as well.  I have a Mogul and got a Slingbox AV and the mobile player this past week.  I was pretty happy with the quality until I saw the mobile player's performance on my friends Treo.  It was much smoother than that of my Mogul.  While this is frustrating, I can only imagine that the Sling folks are working on a fix.

I guess you can't be too picky with technology like this, but it's upsetting when it works better on "lesser" models...

I've had the Mogul for several weeks now and have tried several settings for a better picture.  Here's what I have:

#1 Scenerio:

Disable Slingstream

Video Bitrate - 500

Video FPS - 20

I-Frame internal - 10

Video Resolution - 224 x 176

Uncheck Auto Resolution Mode

I've got EV w/ two bars.  I'm also running 19 fps @ 464 Kbps

*seems to be running smooth with good resolution

#2 Scenerio:

Enable Slindstream optimization w/ high action

Click auto resolution mode

This is running at 28 fps @ 482 kbps.

*this setting is also running smooth with good resolution.

I don't know if it depends on where your located, but I've had excellent slinging off of the Mogul.  What I don't like about the Mogul is that I thought with the longer screen, the picture would be longer as well...not going to happen.  In the future, will the screen be longer?

Thanks for your input Loukywells, I'm going to try your settings and see if they make a significant difference.  Can everyone else try this out as well?

The more I think about it, the more I'm sure the good folks at Sling will update the Mobile Player to fully support our Moguls.  Hopefully these settings (along with further input from others) will help us reach a happy medium until a much needed update is released. Smile

I installed the Slingbox mobile trial software on my mogul but when I try to use it I just keep getting a message stating that Slingbox can't be contacted (even though I am able to contact it from my laptop).  Is there a setting that I need to configure in order to do this?

Thanks

---Turns out that you need to have internet connectivity in order for this to work.  You'd think that the Slingbox people would tell you that before you started :).

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that we install it on the PocketPC version rather than the smartphone one (at least I couldn't get the smartphone one to install.)

Apparently the overall consensus seems to agree that this a DirectDraw issue.  Not sure who it's up to in order to fix the issue, but at least we're closer to understanding the problem.

Supposedly with the proper DirectDraw drivers on our Moguls, SlingPlayer Mobile should function perfectly.

When we can expect such an update is anyone's guess.

July 30, 2007 4:33 PM

is there any way to add the direct draw drivers we need manually to the mogul?  or has anyone pinpointed what exact drivers are needed?

July 30, 2007 4:39 PM

As of now, I don't believe there is any info regarding the manual addition of these drivers (not even sure if they exist yet).  I figure posting this info up here couldn't hurt though--get the word out as much as possible as to what people are believing is the problem...

the real question is will SLING step up and make an update to support the mogul.  its definitely one of the hottest phones out there today...would be nice if they did something to help all of us out.  everything about my upgrade to the mogul i'm really happy with except slingplayer.

We, too, are vexed by these reports and agree performance should at least equal what one finds on the precursor model (6700). We've made arrangements to receive a Mogul (or more) in the office shortly and our engineers will begin researching this issue. Thanks for your patience.

This is great news, Dave.  Thanks so much for keeping up with this thread.  It's so nice to know that there are actually companies out there who listen to their customer's feedback!

I, along with everyone in the thread, look forward to hearing updates on the situation.  If there's anything we can do to help, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Thanks again...

thanks so much... once slingplayer works perfectly i'll be extremely happy with my mogul.

Dave,

I recently purchased both a Slingbox Pro as well as a Sony Location Free console to see which one would be better for me.  From the start, Slingbox had Sony beat for several reasons (can support up to 4 inputs, unlimited computer installs, mobile support) and the only reason I was still teetering was because of Sony's ability to play on my PSP.  After reading this and seeing how responsive Slingbox is to customer's needs, I'm happy to report that my Sony Location Free Console is going back today.  Not really a comment on the Mogul (although I have one and love using it with my Slingbox) but more of just an opportunity to tell you guys that we appreciate the fact that you guys listen and that your efforts are paying off.  Already have 4 friends buying a Slingbox after seeing mine.

Awesome finally getting some traction on this! I love the SlingBox Pro...when I'm using it via LAN or via tethered connection.... LOL hopefully we will have some sort of outcome soon so we can all start to enjoy our new toys! cheers!

One thing I've noticed is that, on the Mogul, WMPlayer at full screen has the same issues as Slingplayer at full screen. It's choppy, easily thrown out of sync, etc. When I play a video with TCPMP, it does the same thing when set in DirectDraw mode. Put it into GDI or Raw Framebuffer mode, however, and it's perfect. I have to think, therefore, that the problem is DirectDraw and that's what Slingplayer uses to render video.

On Wednesday I'm due to receive my 6800 (Sprint is upgrading my defective 6700 for free). I'm very disappointed to learn that the waters may be a little choppy as I configure Slingbox Mobile to my new phone. I didn't even own the 6700 long enough to outlast the free Sling Mobile 30-day trial. So now I have to decide if I want to pay full price for a service that I know is not performing as well as it can.

If I go ahead and buy the software anyway for my Mogul, will I have to pay full price again if there is a release of a new verion of the software that has more robust support for my phone?

A little off topic but, Did you have to do anything special to get them to replace with the 6800?  I got mine replaced a few weeks ago and they had plenty of 6700s..

Slinging Tivo HD, Tivo S2, and OTA from a Pro HD, Tivo HD from a Pro, Tivo HD from a Solo, and Humax DRT800 from a Classic to iPhone, Dell Inspiron 1520 with Sprint EVDO, and a SlingCatcher over Mi-Connection cable with 2Mbps upload.

I guess my timing was just right.

The PPC-6700 has just been phased out by Sprint, within the last week or so. However, when I went in today to get my replacement 6800, they tried to give me a refurbed 6700 (when two new units have already failed right out of the box!).

Fortunately, earlier in the week the sales rep hand-wrote "replace with PPC-6800" on my service ticket (I didn't even ask him to). Plus I explained that I had already purchased some expensive, non-returnable accessories and software for the 6800 I was promised (not entirely truthful Innocent ), so after some "checking with her manager" she was able to offer me a 6800 that I will supposedly receive on Monday (fingers crossed). Assuming I receive my mail-in-rebates, I'll walk away with a $100 Mogul...

damn it feels good to be a gangster Cool

edit to add - I suppose the 6700 may not be phased out in all areas of the country? Regardless, it is no longer offered in Columbus, Ohio.

I was able to smooth out the video playback within TCPMP by setting it to GDI. It's not the greatest, but is still tolerable. I still had the audio sync issue though. TCPMP has a setting that allows for manual adjustment of the A/V sync and I set mine to "-250 msec" and it's "close enough" for me.

The audio sync issue impacts all applications, even the system sounds themselves (you will occasionally notice your "screen tap" sound effect is delayed slightly if you have it turned on in the first place).

I'm glad that we've pretty much pinpointed the problem (DirectDraw). I hope it's not too complicated to fix it!  But something tells me a ROM update will be the ultimate fix.
