Happy to hear and hope you will have a great time with it.
Just a note that I bought a Slingbox AV last night at my local Best Buy and was wowed by the performance and the ease of set up. The software has worked flawlessly and I've probably spent more time cabling up the unit than I've spent on the software configuration. Everything went perfect and I went down to the local eatery and watched my programming from my Dish DVR. All has gone well with the Mac side and my Macbook Pro is now even more of a joy to own. Thanks Sling folks for a great product! Regards, Jack St. Louis Mo.
Thanks for the comment. We took the laptop to a couple of cafe's that have wifi and showed the lunch crowd who ate with us. In one case I was picking up the wifi from the cafe across the street. Then to work yesterday and used the wireless we have in the building. I probably have sold 4 folks at this point. The more I use this the more impressed I am. Jack
I bought a Slingbox PRO and have it hooked to my DirecTV DVR. I'm really happy with the quality though it's hard to truly judge completely, at my LAN speed, because DirecTV is already so hideously compressed. At full speed at home the picture looks equal to the source. Hopefully soon I'll be able to test its HD capabilities. What I'm really surprised about, and pleased, is how good it streams to my laptop (G4 iBook) at work. I've got DSL service with DSLextreme, a 6000/768 line that I get near 5k/650 worth of performance out of, which is good for LA since SoCal has pretty crummy "high speed" internet choices. At work it's often difficult to view youtube.com or google video streams without stuttering and re-buffering but my Slingbox trucks along at a smooth 450-550 with video that looks cleaner than anything I've seen on youtube. I put it in the corner of my desktop in its quarter scale view but overlay graphics and subtitles even are still quite clear and readable. Sound quality is excellent. I'll be purchasing a Slingbox for my stepfather for his birthday. He's also a gadget head and will love the fact that he can stream to his handheld and laptop.
I'm a newbie here, but like Jack I'm very pleased with the performance of my Slingbox Pro with HD connect cable dongle thingy. I just blogged about it http://macsaregreat.com/?p=52 We have HD service from Dish Networks and although the Slingbox does reduce the resolution, the resulting video is still pleasant to watch. I included a gallery in my blog entry with 24 screenshots of the SlingPlayer running on my Power Mac. I'm pleased with this new gadget, it's cool.
