Sling Media is giving away a bunch of Slingbox Classics autographed by baseball great Tony La Russa, and it's pretty easy to win. If you're a Slingbox owner, post a short video of you using your Slingbox to any video sharing site, social network, or personal web page, then e-mail the link to Slingshots@echosports.com.

Share your video with the SlingCommunity by posting a link to your video below. YouTube videos can be embedded right into your post by clicking the YouTube button in the toolbar, and adding your TouTube video code (only the code, not the whole embed link) into the box, and post. It's that easy.

  • Example You Tube link: ...youtube.com/watch?v=Ye93fMonYzM
  • The code is: Ye93fMonYzM

Posting a link or embedding your video below WILL NOT enter you in the contest. To enter you MUST e-mail your link to Sling Media at the e-mail address above.

This contest is pretty cool. Might have to think about something for the commercial idea, while slinging the home run derby tonight. Laughing

I posted mine -

http://video.google.com/videoplay?doc...

If you look closely, you will see that I am also using the At-Large Recorder to tape my video.

The video is not well done Laughing - but that is not a requirement.

Okay - who's next?

Guess that would be me. We decided to create a small commercial and enter it in the “Win a Free Autographed Slingbox Contest“

Eh, who knows if we will win one, we just thought it would be fun to enter.

From the way we understand the contest, quality of video does not count, just the entery and the idea. This video was created by Movie Maker, so don’t criticize too harshly. :)

I don't think there is any rule that videos have to be posted here.  We probably will not know till July 27 (or so) exactly how many entries have really been submitted.

I would like to see what is being submitted - though once we know that they have reached 75, I suspect that submissions would stop pretty quick.  Having said that, I would like to see the winning entries - here or on the SlingMedia site.

One more thought - it is a Classic that is being awarded. Though I am very happy with the Classic and since I currently have no HD devices, I have no need for the Pro. But others may be in a different situation.

But the Classic might be perfect as a gift or as a second SlingBox for other users. And, with Tony La Russa's signature, it may have some value someday. All of this provides good motivation for entering the contest.

Given MLB's stand against the SlingBox, it is no coincidence that they have chosen Tony La Russa to sign the boxes. I hope it has the effect of encouraging MLB to step away from its claims.

I hope that others do make submissions into the contest.

Do the first 75 people win automatically?

July 10, 2007 11:31 PM

Here is what the rules say:

How to Enter: Between 7/5/07 and 7/21/07, post a short video of you using your slingbox to any video sharing site, social network page or personal web page. If you aren’t a Slingbox owner, just post a video showing us how you would use your  Slingbox. The video cannot be more than three (3) minutes in length. Once the video is posted, send an email to SlingShots@echosports.com with a link to the aforementioned video in the body of the message. Also include your Name, Email  address, Daytime Phone Number and Mailing Address in the body of the message.      The first 75 entrants to email the correct link to their posted video will win a Slingbox Classic autographed by Tony La Russa.

Here is the complete set of rules:

At the top it says first 75 people win and then it is "Winners will be selected from among all eligible entries"....

I am confused - the official rules (published by SlingMedia) say nothing about there needing to be a baseball connection. But I just came across this page, posted on the Sling Community site, which suggests that such a requirement exists:

Post is here

What is the scoop?

Thanks Dave.

If I came to the contest via the SlingMedia page, there would be no way for me or some other user to know about the Baseball connection.  I was following a similar set of links at the top of the SlingCommunity home page - again no mention of the baseball connection.

It was only as I explored the bottom half of the SlingCommunity home page (a couple of days later) that I found the site referenced in my earlier note.  Even Matt Whitlock's post that began this thread makes no mention of a baseball connection.

Again, thank you for letting us know what is expected.

The official rules synopsis that Floyd quoted above covers the entrance requirements:

Between 7/5/07 and 7/21/07, post a short video of you using your slingbox to any video sharing site, social network page or personal web page. If you aren’t a Slingbox owner, just post a video showing us how you would use your Slingbox. The video cannot be more than three (3) minutes in length.

Complete rules are here as a PDF

However, in the spirit of the season (All-Star week! La Russa's autograph!) we've provided some baseball-specific suggestions:

  1. Create a video of yourself "slinging" the 2007 All-Star game on your PC, laptop, or other mobile device from around your home, at the office, attending a boring dinner party that your wife made you go to, from that vacation to the in-laws who drive you crazy, or better yet from the game itself!

  2. Create an advertisement for Slingbox that illustrates why Slingbox is a great way to watch the All-Star game or any major sporting event when you're away from home.  Use your imagination and whatever tools you have (drawings, animation, puppets, video, bobble head dolls, etc.)

  3. Post a video of yourself singing the praises of the Slingbox as a baseball fan's best friend.  And yes, you have to actually sing.  It could be an original song, a song parody, or a "slingified" version of a popular tune.
Personally, I'd really like to see some singing commercials. Could be quite amusing...

Dave, What about the "The first 75 entries will win, so don't delay! Enter now!" statement. Does that hold true? Cory

Ha! That sounds like a great idea. Let's get our own SlingCommunity Idol contest going!

We'll toss in a SlingCommunity T-Shirt and a free copy of SlingPlayer Mobile.

Create a video with you singing a tune about the Slingbox (original song, parody, whatever), post it online, and drop a link here for all to see.

I'm thinking that Dave and I should argue and pick a favorite out amongst all the entreis. Dave, you up for playing Simon?

Sounds good! But if I'm Simon, are you Randy or Paula? ;)

Cory, Yes and the clock is ticking... So, where's your video?

Cool

July 11, 2007 12:29 PM

Alright! So it shall begin.

I'll post a new thread with the side contest details shortly. Dave is Simon, I'll be Randy, and Floyd... since you're too nice, you get to be Paula ;-)  Good representation here: a Sling Media Guy, A SlingCommunity Guy, and a Sling Fan. It doesn't get any better.

I'll post a link here later today for the contest. If you want to enter now, post your link here and I'll move it over to the side contest thread later.

Thanks - I pulled my original post because I had miss read your earlier comments.  But I will gladly play the role of the nice one.

So, all we need now are contestants.

Are we really that bad?  I expect that we can keep Simon (I mean Dave) in line.
