Bought the Sling about 2 months ago in preparation for this trip.  Everything was working fine from hotel room for 2 days.  Day 3 I'm watching Sling and the screen freezes up.  I load up Sling, it says "connected for about 10 seconds" then stops.  It will not load up anything.  I called Sling and they said I would have to be home with the Slingbox Pro to get problem resolved. Not at all happy that this is what happens when I leave house for 10 day trip and they tell me I need to be home to fix the Slingbox.  I had a neighbor go to house and unplug my Tivo Series III as I thought maybe it had hung up, but that obviously was not the problem.  Sling support logged into my Slingbox and got the same results that I was getting but said send someone to your house to get the problem fixed.  Not what I call a solution for a product that is made to use while away from home.  Not at all happy. Anyone have a fix for this problem?

Have the neighbor reboot the slingbox, not the Tivo..

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

I just called and will have them reboot. Thanks for the suggestion. Don't you think the techs from Slingbox could have told me this?

Sorry to hear that, jleonar1. Ryan's suggestion is a good one if your neighbor is able to assist. In addition to power cycling the Slingbox, I'd also suggest power cycling your router (first).

While it's not clear exactly what issue you're experiencing, you might be a good candidate for some new Slingbox firmware we're testing. When you get home, check it out:

Dave, Thanks for the quick reply. I will try these suggestions. In regards to the beta firmware since the Slingbox is not working would there be any negative to trying to set that up now, before I get home. Don't know what harm it would do as I can't use it now. Would I be able to go back to my previous version? Thanks again. Jon

I was having this same problem, and not really sure WHY it was when I was using the device remotly.  But, in HKG and SHA over two differant trips, I was slinging fine and then boom, nothing.

But, the device manages to sit for weeks at a time, at home and while I am at home and it slings just fine.  Only when I am remote, maybe out of the country remote or slinging a lot.

I have upgraded to a newer firmware lately, not sure if it is the beta or not, but will check.

I know it gets frustrating but as was said early, Power Cycle.  Turn everything off, turn it back on and you will find many times that clears all the issues.  Soemtimes your rotuer, computer, slingbox, wireless adapter etc just gets clogged with some much random info it "Freezes."  If you read around on the boards here and other places you will see people say they power cycle once a week, some put times on their equipment and power cycle once a day.  It can be frustraing but that's about the best thing you can do.

Slingbox Pro Slinging Comcast cable and HD via Comcast HSI using AirLink Powerline adapters; Slingbox Classic Slinging Sunddenlink Analog Cable and D* HR21 via Sunddenlink HSI, using Linksys Gaming adapter.

If you want to be able to power cycle any device while you're away from home, consider installing a gizmo like the X10 Telephone Responder which will allow you to call your home number to turn on/off your dsl/cable modem, router, slingbox, etc. Google "X10 telephone responder" if interested.

Great, buy more gadgets to keep the gadgets I already own working. I appreciate the suggestions but wouldn't it be nice if it just worked.

I agree it should just work.  My router stays up for 300+ days with no hanging and no need for reboots.

However as a practical matter sometimes it takes time to get to those levels of stability.  In the meantime I've found the old vacation timer that turns on/off your light invaluable for rebooting equipment that sometimes becomes unstable.  Just attach the slingbox to the vacation timer and have it setup to reboot once or twice a day.  It sounds hokey, but if it gets the job done, you can spend your time enjoying the product rather than cursing it.

This problem has been posted before, I often have the problem after a couple of days of remote access on the Pro. (Only the pro - never on my classic)

But the fix is exactly as posted above. I have a timer set to turn off power once a day. No problems in months since doing that.

That beta firmware I mentioned above has been released:
http://us.slingmedia.com/object/KB-00...

It resolves the issue with some router models where Port Forwarding / UPnP settings are lost after a router’s WAN IP address changes. If you've experienced this issue and Remote Viewing has started working again after a power cycle without making any changes to the Slingbox, updating your Slingbox’s firmware should prevent it from reoccurring.

I have this exact same problem.

I updated to the new firmware and I still have the exact same problem.

Resetting the slingbox fixes it but this problem is making my slingbox worthless . :(

I just ordered one from this site. http://www.improvementscatalog.com/me... $20 Timex® Digital 7-Day Timer Timex® Digital 7-Day Programmable Timer turns a lamp on and off at your exact time...no guesswork. Other plug-in lamp timers don't allow you to set an exact time for on/off, but this digital timer does...actually, it gives you 20 on/off programs per day over each of seven days! LCD display. Random program feature helps deter burglars. Adjusts for daylight savings at the touch of a button. Outlet status light. 1875w capacity. For 2-prong or 3-prong plugs. 1-1?2"x2-3?4"x3" tall.
