But it doesn't have a QAM tuner, correct?

I'm usually critical of TiVo, particularly since they killed off lifetime subscriptions and released the Series 3. The Series 3 is a very nice DVR, but $800 for one, plus the service fees? Let's get real.
I'm happy to admit that TiVo has done something right... after a long line of fumbles. No, they didn't reinstate lifetime subscriptions, but they DID release a brand new HD capable DVR that's a lot like the S3, only a heck of a lot more affordable at $299. Who knows, the TiVo HD could be your Slingbox PRO's new best frind.
If you're thinking about getting one, I'd like to pass on some SlingCommunity savings. DVRupgrade is offering stock and even modified TiVo HD units (at sizes up to 1 TB!) at killer prices, free shipping, no tax if you live outside of Illinois, and one of three special offers depending on what you buy. You won't get that kind of a deal anywhere. All you have to do get that deal is click here.
Special Offer #1: A FREE TiVo Glo Premium Remote with the purchase of ANY upgraded Series3 TiVo DVR or TiVo HD DVR (coupon code: GLOREMOTE07A)
Special Offer #2: $15 off of a TiVo Glo Premium Remote with the purchase of any stock TiVo HD DVR (coupon code: GLOREMOTE07B).
Special Offer #3: A free 6-foot HDMI cable with the purchase of any stock TiVo HD DVR (coupon code: HDMI07C).
If you'd like to learn more about the new TiVo HD (specs, details, etc.), I wrote a full article about it over at the TechLore.com, and just republished it right here on SlingCommunity. Check it out: http://www.slingcommunity.com/article...

According to the latest info I could muster, TiVo HD and Series 3 units can both tune QAM (unencrypted HD cable) stations if you enter the channel number directly. However, since it can't map them properly, you won't be able to use features like Season Pass and such. You can record them though if you hit the record button while the station is on.

Glad I didn't jump on the S3.. I'll upgrade it myself and don't need THX.
I'll actually end up paying more per month with the Tivo but it will be nice to get back to Tivo for HD instead of the SA8300HD. Little things like not being able to hit info and get info on a show while playing back. You have to hit list, then info..
Plus, eventually when they add more of the Home Media Options it will be even better.
The only thing I'm not crazy about is cable cards. I had a Sony box that lost channels and I had to reset periodically. Hopefully that's gotten better..
Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.
Preordered my first one from DVRUpgrade tonight. Now I have to decide how big to go with hard drive. I'll probably just go with 500 GB for the price difference up to a 750..

I've gotten a bit of the Tivo bug with this new model. I bought my brother a Series 2 with lifetime a few years ago, and really like the UI, but have never owned one myself as I had an HDTV and wanted an HD DVR (but wouldn't pay the price for an S3).
I use the SA8300HD from TWC and it is actually pretty good...it has a better UI than my in-law's Cablevision SA8300HD by a long shot. I've figured out the cost difference (including the two cable card rentals) and excluding the box purchase, it is actually $3/month cheaper than renting TWC's DVR. With the box purchase included, it is about $5/month more expensive (both comparisons based on 36 months).
My only issue is lack of VOD due to the cable cards...I use HBO and SHO On-Demand pretty often, which would require keeping a Digital cable box in addition to the Tivo HD...and thereby creating a less-than-elegant two box / two input setup in order to replace what I have now (and adds $7.95/month extra to the picture).
I can't wait until Cable Card 2.0 is real.
Let us know how you like the Tivo HD when you get it setup!
Got the shipping confirmation Tuesday. It will be delivered Thursday but I won't be home till Friday night..
Aren't all the shows on VOD on otherwise? Can't you record them and watch them when you want that way? My crappy cable co doesn't even have VOD yet..

Cool that you're getting one. I'd like to pursuade you to write a review of it for TechLore and DVRplayground. Shoot me an e-mail and we'll see what we can work out. :-)

Stinking UPS... They leave packages at my door all the time but decided not to with the Tivo.. I had a friend driving by to pick it up when they left it but they didn't.. I have to pick it up Monday afternoon now...

Finally got it today. So far it's great. I haven't called the cable company yet. They won't do a cablecard self install so I'll have to have them come out. I'm pretty much only home on Saturdays so it might be a couple weeks. I'm using an indoor antenna and it's pretty good. If it wasn't for Discovery, HBO, and ESPN I might not worry about the CC. I might just get one.
As for storage I was going to upgrade it but I think I'll just go external. I've got an enclosure so I just need to pick up a 500 or 750 SATA drive.
Set it up on the Pro as an S3 and everything's fine there. I need to look back at some of the S3 threads and see if there are any issues..

Setup question, if I may..... With the new TiVo HD, looks like theres only 1 set of outputs, while on my TiVo series2 there is both an 'output 1' and and 'output 2' of RCA jacks..... how would one hook up the new TiVoHD to both a Slingbox and television?..... are all the outputs active, so i can plug my TV into the HDMI and my Slingbox into the Y/W/R rca outputs? thanks for clearing this up, I'm excited to try Slingbox
I'm using mine on a Pro with the HDConnect. Component from the Tivo to the SB, then to the TV. You could use RCA splitters with the AV, Classic, or without the HDC. My Sony tube doesn't have HDMI so I can't try it. Based on comments when the S3 first came out I'm pretty sure they're all active.
CableCards are OK.. A couple issues but nothing I can't deal with. Looks like I'll replace the other 8300HD pretty soon.

Got THD #2 today. I bought it on Ebay from a lady that won it from the Ellen show. Got the unit, wireless G adapter, Glo Remote, and 1 yr service for $395 shipped. Went to set it up today and found out it has lifetime service...
