Hello all,

I just bought a slingbox classic. I hooked everything up and sound and tv go through the box fine to the tv. I hooked up the ethernet cable to my router and turned on the slingbox but the network light will not come on. I have tried two different routers and many ethernet cables ensuring that my pc connects to the router everytime fine. Is there anything I am missing when trying to get the classic to pick up a IP. My routers are set for DHCP.

Thanks inadvance

Make sure of a couple of things.

1. If your runing a MAC filter list within the router configuration, add the slingbox's MAC Address to the list of connections available to access the network.

2. The default ip addy the slingbox tries to connecto to ends in a .237 (if I recall correctly). That was out of my range since I adjust the network for only the IP's I use, so I reassigned it to the next available IP address on my network (.1xx). You must do this in the router as well as the slingbox's network configuration winzard by choosing the "manually set up my network" option.

At that point reset both the router and slingbox and you should be able to access things after they both reboot.

I have tried changing my DHCP pool all around and resetting the router and slingbox classic but still the network light will not come on and/or the box will not pick up a IP.  I cannot do anything with the software until the box picks up a IP

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Well 99% of the time it ends up being a simple router setting. Try listing which routers you have (brand and model) so we can try to assist you a tad more on getting it setup correctly.

Also please list your connection type (cable modem, dsl modem, satellite modem etc. If your modem incorporates a router--please indicate so and list the brand and model as well.

I am running a netgear 54g wireless router that is hooked up to a standard cable modem. My NAT translation is 192.168.1.200 - 192.168.1.240. Since I heared that the box is looking for a IP ending .237 thats why I changed my DHCP pool but with still now luck.

Thanks inadvance again for any suggestions

K... Since I'm unfamiliar with the netgear line I'll have you look for the following:

See if the router contains an option to enable/disable a "Mac address filter list". It might be labeled a tad different---however it will be something along those lines. Basically what the filter list does is enable only mac addressed nick devices listed in that the configuration page to connect to your network. Any other device simply can NOT grab an ip to connect.

Also after you disable the list if any, reboot both the router and the slingbox's power).

Let me know if this gets you in the right direction.

Ok I looked in my routers settings and there is no MAC filtering option and any filtering optiona are all turned off. I have changed all my DHCP pools from 192.168.1.1 to .50 then from .50 to 100 , then .100 to .150, .150 to .200, .200 to .240 and made sure my PC picked up the new IP right away and reset the slingbox inbetween each time and then hooked it back up and the box's network light will not turn on/ pick up a IP.

I am at a loss at the moment, any more suggestions, thanks

I AM NEW TO THIS FORUM AND THOUGHT I WOULD ADD THIS INFO. I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH A SLINGBOX PRO. THE BOX WAS WORKING FINE FOR A LONG TIME AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN JUST STOPPED. NO NETWORK LIGHT. I STILL HAD A RED POWER LIGHT BUT NO NETWORK LIGHT. AFTER 3 DAYS OF RESETTING SLINGBOX--ROUTER AND GOING THROUGH EVERYTHING I DECIDED TO CHECK THE VOLTAGE COMING FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. THE VOLTAGE IS SUPPOSED TO BE 6 VOLTS WITH 1.2 AMPS. I WAS GETTING 5 VOLTS WITH 1 AMP. I CHANGED THE POWER SUPPLY AND WHALA. SLINGBOX PICKED UP A IP ADDRESS AND HAS BEEN WORKING FINE SINCE. TALKED TO A COMPUTER TECH GUY AND HE SAYS THE SLINGBOX VOLTAGE IS CRITICAL FOR PROPER OPERATION JUST AS A COMPUTER IS. HOWEVER SINCE I SAW THE RED POWER LIGHT ON I FIGURED THERE WAS ENOUGH POWER. THE TRANSFORMERS INSIDE THE POWER SUPPLY GET WEAK OVER TIME AND LOOSE VOLTAGE CAUSING THE SLINGBOX NOT TO POWER UP CORECTLY. HOPE THIS HELPS
