I have been a slinger for 3 weeks now and love it.  I just dumped my dsl for Time Warner Cable Roadrunner Turbo that offers 15mb download and for remote slinging a 1mb upload!  Great remote viewing. Much better than broadband standard 384K upload.

Just wanted to let slingers know about better upload options for great remote viewing.

I heard Verizon high speed internet has the potential for 2-5mb upload.  Anyone have this?

Upload depends on your area's capabilities not just the ISP. Just because your area has TWC at the speeds you posted, does NOT mean all TWC custoers can achieve/order those packages. Typically TWC offers 2 packages (5-6meg down /w 384KB up, or 8 meg down /w 512KB up). Although those are the stated specs----you'll also notice a disclaimer that says "speeds up to" those stats. Alot of areas don't achieve the highest posted speeds due to line conditions or older equipment at the ISP substations or headends.....

At any rate....As far as verizon goes; the speed of 2-5 meg upload are for areas where the customer can subscribe to "fios" Maximum packqage is 30 meg down and 5 meg upload.

I'm a beginner, so I'm having a bit of a problem understanding you.

Are you saying that your DSL directly effects your ability to view remotely, in particularly, your cell phone? Even if your DSL provider and cell phone carrier are different?

The picture quality of remote viewing is dictataed by the upload speed of the ISP at the location where the slingbox is connected. Better upload speeds produce a better picture quality at the end location where the slingbox is being viewed.

With My Cox  cable internet service  I see  upload speeds of  above 500kbps at times  but then  a minute or so later  it drops below  50kbps at that point my slingbox stops playing and buffers.  and it is up and down all the time  I wouldn't mind if the quality degraded but it drops so much that it stops playing.

Is this normal  for cable internet service or is it a problem with my internet service.

Is there something I can say to Cox  if I call them to get results of a more stable  upload speed?

 thanks

Sounds more like a problem with the ISP in your area due to an amp being misadjusted or a condition further down the line. I'd run several speed tests to verify that your infact seeing a drop in speed during uploading. Another way you can see this is to connect via an ftp client to another server and upload a large file. Whatch the speed indicator in real time on the ftp client to see what your actually getting when you push a file to another location.

quick question about upload speed. It seems that all DSL providers in my area (San Francisco) offer upload speeds no more than 768 kbps. Are there other providers that offer more upload bandwidth? I have ATT DSL and even comcast cable is the same. I'm at work right now and the max I get from my remote slingbox at home is 300 kbps. It looks fine but can be better I think.

if your only getting 300KB from your slingbox---yes it could be a hell of alot better.......

Whats your upload speed from home (as f its only 300 I'm sure you can get a faster package from your ISP. IF its more then that---then its the download speed at your location (work) that is limiting the connection).

As far as speeds above 768 for upload---well it depends on your specific region and the ISP's lines there.

Verizon's "FIOS" for example has a maximum package speed of 30 meg down and 5 meg up......but again it's what's offered in your area---not mine....

Thanks Yoda. My current plan with ATT offer up to 512 Kbps upload and from my tests I see that I get about 400 kbps upload. When I view the slingbox remotley the stream is always around 300-340 kbps.

The best offer for upload speed is 768kbps and I'm trying to find if there is another provider with better upload speed.Too bad we don't have Verizon here.

If nothing else is available with higher speeds, I'd srtill opt for the ISP with the 768 upload. That will make a huge differance in picture quality concearning the slingbox.

I seem to have a problem similar to trashcan.  I was showing 200 upload and, while the picture was acceptable, it was always locking up and I had to go out of the program and back in. Then it would immediately be back on and stay on for anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes.  I thought it was the upload so I recently upgraded.  Now I am at 600 upload but it still does the same thing.  It does this on both of my laptops.  BTW, I get flawless performance at over 2000 upload in my house.  Help?
