I have had Slingbox for over one year without any issues. The hardware is located in Florida (Comcast) at two diiferent locations. I am residing most of the time in Germany and streaming was always at 680-720 Kbps, fine for me.

Recently however, after returing to my home base in Germany from a two month trip, when I first start SlingPlayer, the stream will peak out at the normal Kbps (up to 720+) and then once that peak is reached, the stream immediately drops to 365 Kbps and stays constant there.

At first I thought it might be the local German internet provider but after trying at a different location, the same scenario happened.

The I thought maybe the local Florida Comcast IP might have put some sort of streaming limiter...is this possible?

Is it also possible Sling Media has something to do with this?

Any suggestions on where to locate the issue is appreciated.

have someone run a bandwith test and check your upload speed at the sligbox location. If it's consistantly 700+ as your origional viewing experience was, then indeed it's your german isp or the area thats effected.

However if the test shows that the upload speed at the slinglocation slows down or is inconsistant, then only a service call from your isp in florida can adress the issue to it's final resolution.

*You could also have someone else that resides in the US for example log into your sling setup as a viwer and confirm what speeds they are getting.

Comcast is using something called "powerboost", which could be messing with your upload speeds.

I have the Comcast 768 up plan, and what happens is the upload speed goes up as high as 1200kbps, then drops back to the normal 700. After a certain time, this process repeats.

Where I used to get a steady 700-720kbps, now it's all over the place from 400-1200kbps. Video looks ok though.

 Hope this helps a little.....

Google "Comcast Powerboost" for more detailed explanation.

Thanks Shanks...I think you are correct. I called Comcast yesterday and it seems as though Comcast changed my service unannounced which they apparently can do.

Comcast said I was on the 364 upload plan (whatever that is). Like I said, I for over a year was streaming at a consistant 720 and all of a sudden, poof I am limited to 364ish. arrrgggg.

So, the Comcast representative said he would "upgrade" me to the 768 plan no charge for one year which I took them up on.

Now all of sudden I am at a most constant streaming speed of 610ish Kbps after their "upload upgrade." Better than 360ish Kbps for sure but not what I was getting before this upgrade...arrrggggg again.

Comcast also said that I am on a grid of another 191 customers so depending on their usage, my upload speeds may vary, which it seems to now but not before. Am I missing something here?

I looked into Verizon FIOS which has infiltrated our area but...it seems as though where I am particularly located in Sarasota, FIOS is not available yet because there was no franchise rights given to them. Sounds political to me.
