Hello all:

I am thinking about buying a slingbox. Ideally, I want to setup my slingbox at home -- so I can watch TV and stuff while I am away at college. I should be OK from a firewall/connection speed standpoint, I just need a couple of things answered:

1) Does the slingbox have a DVR type thing in it? Or am I required to watch programs live? (I will not have physical access to the slingbox once it is setup.)

2) Can you remotely schedule the slingbox to watch/stream a particular program/channel?

I'd be connecting the box directly into the cable outlet -- with no intermediate filters or cable boxes.

Thanks for your help - I look forward to your replies

Dan

There is no built in DVR, basically the slingbox will be just like a TV for you.  When you want to watch a program you just bring up the sling software on your computer and watch it.  You change the channels just like you would on your tv if you were home.  You don't need to have access to your sling once it's up and running.  All of the controls are on your computer i.e. changing channels.

You  need a seperate DVR locaded with the Slingbox (at home)   Slingbox  works very well with  DVRs  and you can control you DVR remotely  with the slingplayer software.

I noticed this is under the Slingbox AV  section. Keep in mind the slingbox AV does not have  a direct cable (coax) input  there needs to be a cable box or DVR (with tuner) .
