Hoping someone can help out.

I'm attempting to set up a Slingbox Pro to my Direct TV HD Tivo.

I have gone through the installation as instructed. The audio works. I get a message saying "No video signal is detected". I've tired both the included RCA cables as well as the S-Video with no difference.

Both lights are on on the front of the Slingbox and I can easily find my Slingbox and listen to the audio. The remote control features/synch also works perfectly. Just missing the video signal.

Is there a problem slinging HD content?

My guess is that I have a defected slingbox?

 Any help appreciated.

Are you plugging in both an HDMI cable as well as a RCA/S-Video Cables? DirecTV receivers usually don't allow you to plug both HDMI and other video cables. Use component cables instead.

Thanks.

My TV is connected to the Tivo unit with the component video cables (the Red green blue ones). Those go from the Tivo to the TV. I have the S video going from the Tivo unit to the Slingbox.

I have audio going from my TV (audio out) to the Sling and it works fine. My TV doesn't have a video out.

Do you have the HD Connect Cable? You might need one of those.

Otherwise, have you tried plugging in the RCA/Svideo cable pass through on the slingbox to your TV? It's just a pass through, that way you can tell if the receiver is sending a signal on those cables.

You NEED to be using the Slingbox HD Adapter that plugs into what kind of looks like a HDMI port on the Slingbox.  Your having a problem because you CAN'T get HD using S-Video, you NEED to use the Component connection.  So you need this Adapter and then you plug your TIVO into the Adapter and then the Adapter to your HDTV.   I'm not even sure the HD TIVO will output 2 different Video connections at once.   Have you tried watching a regular NON-HD channel?  With a HD Picture, your not going to get any video from S-Video, but if the TIVO can output both at the same time then S-Video should work on SD channels.

Your just making this harder then it needs to be.  Spend the extra $50 and get the HD Connect Adapter to plug into your Slingbox Pro so you can plug your Component Cable from the HD TIVO (Red,Green,Blue) into the Slingbox.  You won't have this Video problem then.

Got it. Thanks. I'll swing by Best Buy on the way home tomorrow and let you all know how it goes.

Question - I just realized I have the Slingbox A/V not the Pro- Does that change your suggestion? Am I trying to do something the Sling A/V doesn't support?

thanks!

Jollymon:

You need to change the output resolution to 480i to get any signal out of the s-video or composite video jack on the DTV HD Tivo.  Refer to the following thread:

But now your TIVO is in SD mode and not HD mode.  What are you going to do, switch the TIVO settings back and forth all the time?   It's a Temporary solution, but having the Pro with the HD connector is a more Permanent Solution.    You may be someplace, want to watch some Remote TV and Ops, you forgot to set your TIVO to SD mode and now your out of luck.

I think Sling is coming out soon with new Boxes and one of them has Component connections built in so you don't need a separate Adapter for the pro (Which is how it should have been!!!).  Maybe that would be the way to go.

You can program the remote on your Tivo to toggle resolutions with the up arrow under the settings. That way you can plug in all the different inputs you'd like.

My new challenge is now getting my plam devlice to reliably pick up the signal....not an easy one either.

I'm still thinking of going back to Best Buy, returning the A/V and getting the Pro with the HD adaptor. This feels like a clunky option.
