I view TV via Slingbox classic from overseas, but would like an inexpensive DVR with a hard drive to time shift programs. In the past when trying to use them, I've found compatibility problems--can't access remote via slingbox, which is necessary. I couldn't get my Walmart purchased DVR to work. Anyone have any recommendations of a Sling compatible DVR with a hard drive, which I could purchase on the market currently that they know is compatible? I realize that the Sling web site lists compatible hardward, but it's like finding a needle in a haystack to me. Thanks!

I don't have tivo or want a subscription. I just need a DVR with a hard drive to record programs for slingbox playback later.

Get lifetime TiVo S1 from ebay or craigslist. They are probably around $200 or less now.
I got a lifetime replaytv from ebay for around $200 and it works great with the slingbox.
