well with a new modem...try to do a reset on all of them.....yes,,this means adding in the info again..but it works...start with evdrything off first....then turn on the modem..when that boots, connect it to the router...verify you can connect a computer through the router to the internet..then connect the slingbox to the router...see if that helps
My old cable modem went bad, so I was issued a new one. Set it up, works fine.
But, now I cannot remotely connect to my Slingbox. It is plugged into my router, and works on the LAN, but even when I connect directly to my IP address and Port 5001, it won't connect.
I can connect to my router remotely, and I've verified the settings a few times. My slingbox is on 192.168.1.199 with port 5001 forwarded. My settings here at work in the SlingPlayer are all correct. I can locate the Slingbox, but it just sticks on "connecting" forever.
I haven't changed any settings on my computer, router, or slingbox. All I did was replace the modem. The modem doesn't appear to have any fireware or software on it that would block ports (I connect to my IP addres and port 8080 to access my router admin panel - works fine). I can try to re-check the modem for some sort of firewall or port management system, if that is what you think is the likely cuplrit.
So I really don't know what to do. It worked with the old modem, so something is up with the new one.
Any ideas on this?
Is the modem the same model # as the old one? What is it??
Check your router and see what its WAN IP is. If it's a public IP then the modem isn't routing. If it's a private IP it is..
Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.
It's not even the same brand modem or anything. Totally different.
The external WAN ip for the modem is the real IP for my ISP, not an internal IP. I can connect to the router using that IP from my work and log into the routers. I also have the router updating a dyndns.org dynamic DNS, which also works.
If I am at work and I can connect to my modems IP address remotley (log into the router admin and such), and the slingbox is on my network (working) and the ports are open, then presumably it should work.
I can't think of anything else to try. I've reset the slingbox, the modem, and the router, even doing a "hard reset" on the slingbox and wiping the settings. I set it back up, works fine on the LAN, but again, not from my remote location. Port 5001 is open, the Slingbox's IP is set 192.168.1.102, and I can connect to my live IP remotley, but for some reason the Slingplayer will just never connect remotley, but will over the LAN (even when I use the dynamic DNS domain instead of the finderID).
What else can I do to figure this out?
My Westell modem is also a router. Thus when I set up my Slingbox I have to port forward through both the modem/router and the wireless router. I've just gone through a challenging time when things were working fine, my son disconnected the Box and then it would't work. Went through three long sessions with support. Have you logged in to chat with them? They will remotely control your computer and check things out. In general, they're very good, although these last few interactions have been frustrating. I finally fixed mine with a complete wipeout, started over, set new IP's and it works fine again.
My modem definitley isn't a router. It's just got 1 ethernet port on it, and the modem firmware/software has no settings for any firewall or ports, it just shows the status of the connection.
I'm going to try again today and see what happens after resetting anything.
I wasn't aware Slingbox support could help me, I'll give that a try. Not sure if they can log into my computer since all my computers are Macintosh, but I can give it a try.
I wasn't aware mine was a router either. It only has one Ethernet port as well. But in looking through the sofware, there are settings for port forwarding. Took me a while to figure this out. Sling chat support is generally excellent. They really know what they're doing.
