I have a slingbox pro and qwest DSL internet. I upgraded my internet to comcast cable modem today assuming the faster upload speed would give me a better picture. Boy was I wrong. When i first log on everything looks fine and I get speeds of about 800 kbps but then after a few minutes the speed divebombs down to around 100 kbps and the picture gets really glitchy. Did i make a big mistake or is there something I can do to fix this? Any thoughts???

Well, first off, what speed package did you get with Comcast? Only their top speed package at 8 Mb/sec down gives you 768 kbps up. All others are 387 kbps up which is really too slow for Slinging. Also, at times your speeds will vary on cable but it shouldn't be that bad. I just switch to cable modem myself and see it vary a little from time to time but not enough to really matter. Comcast has a burst mode where the first 10 to 20 MB of a file or a transfer go through at very high rates but then after that it drops to normal. So we really need to know what package you have with Comcast.

I have the 10mb package.

Comcast has a 10 Mb package? Wow. Where do you live? Highest I can get here is 8 Mb. Anyhow, that's the downstream rate. What is the advertised upstream rate as that is what is important here?

So, I have been having this SAME problem lately, not really sure why.  A couple of items have changed in the past few months.

One, the PRO is now on the latest FW 1.0.39

Second, I moved my home DSL from one location to another.  Other than the 1 month nightmare of getting it simply installed correctly, I haven't had any other problems.

I have the 3MB package now with 512 upstream.  I usually get around 440kps or so up.

And, when I connect to the pro now, outside the home, I get about 435kps, a pretty decent signal.  But, after about 5-10 minutes, I am getting only about 110kps.  Signal just drops off completly, never comes back.

Is there something new in the FW, or SP software that is more sensitive to line connections?

another interesting data point:

When I use my slingplayer mobile on the treo, over EVDO, I get a pretty constant 235-270 kps as listed on the SPM screen.  This is about where it normally is, so NOT at the 435 levels that the SP PC version sees.

I'll try another computer with an older version of the SP PC software to see if that works better.  I have a feeling, this could be a FW and new SW problem?

i have the same problem with my slingbox pro. it was working fine until i have updated to latest firmware. it starts with 300 to 400 kps and then drop to 70-80 kps in a minute. i have tried resetting the box and using the old firmware but it is still the same problem. i have done the speed test and it is about 500 upstream. if anyone knows the fix for this please let me know.

I'm running the same firmware as everyone else on my Pro and yesterday I slung for about an hour over lunch. I have a 1 Mb/sec upload and the Slingbox was cruising along about 700 to 850 kbps...Never had a glitch...

Identical issues since firmware upgrade 1.0.39 on the Pro.  Cruisiing at max upload speed 384k, then total crash intermittently to 76k.  Up, down, reset, completely unusable.  Today is first time it's been stable slinging from hotel in different country.  Any techs out there that understand the architecture and reasons?  Been frustrated for weeks.

Same problem here since the firmware upgrade.

I don't even get out of the 50k area now and I'm using Fios and Wifi (with my smartphone) to connect to my slingbox.

October 12, 2007 9:11 AM

Okay, with six people now, do we OFFICIALLY have an issue?

October 12, 2007 9:24 AM

I suppose it's possible however, I've been running the firmware since it's been released and have seen no such issues. I've done extensive Slinging with both my Mac and also with my WinMobile Treo700W. Speeds have been great. I've been running the firmware on my Pro and my Solo. I have not recently played with my Classic or put the firmware on it. The Pro and the Solo work flawlessly. So there's obviously something with each person's setup that is causing the problem. Maybe if people could tell their full details, it might help. What sort of computer/phone are you running the player client on? What's the specs on that device? What player version? What is your internet specs? What Slingbox? What input to that Slingbox? etc...Keep in mind that this firmware was beta tested and a widespread issue would have been caught. So something is unique here. I'm not denying the problem, I'm just saying I don't see it and a lot of others don't see it as well. So let's try to get full information about everything and see if there's a commonality between those who are having problems.

ok,my friend downgraded the firmware using this method,

http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thread/24622/Slingbox-Pro-v1.0.39-non-streaming-US/

i also downgraded my player to 1.4,im back up to 350-400 and dont see the problem anymore, thank god.

hope this helps.

That doesn't help diagnose the problem. In order for Sling to fix it, we need to know what is causing it. It is OBVIOUSLY not affecting everyone...

Hi Guys,

Similar problem here, first heres my setup, Im in the UK and have tried the latest windows players, US and UK versions. Also been back one version on the player same deal.

My setup :

In the USA I have a slingbox pro

Latest firmware on the pro

448kbps upload speed

Windows player on XP, v1.5

Wireless connection to Linksys wag54gs v1.1 access point.

Also have a UK slingbox classic on the local network no problems here or away from home on the internet.

This is what it does :

Player connects fine and streams up to 380k approx. After between 1 and 5 mins speed crashes to 70k and sometimes recovers sometimes not. Sometimes the player crashes my PC and I need to power the machine down. Restart  and same thing, starts fine up to 380k and crashes after a few mins.

One odd thing is :

Using wireless I get 380k ish and it stays up slightly longer

Using wired ethernet to my linksys I get 260k crashes sooner

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

Andrew

I just reset the slingbox to the original firmware and downloaded the smartphone software again and the speeds are flying.

October 13, 2007 11:20 PM

I would also like to reset to original firmware but I can't seem to find bin.  Can someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks

The original bin can be found in the

Program Files/Sling Media/SlingPlayer

folder.  It should be called something like.. SbPbProFwV1_0_11Current.bin if you're using the SlingBox Pro.

GL, I just rolled mine back, but I'll have to wait until i'm remote again to test it out.

October 14, 2007 12:42 AM

Well, I'll keep mine as is, I'll email sharon if she wants to have someone test it out on my machine.

October 14, 2007 3:22 AM

Unfortunatly I dont have direct easy access to my pro so it will stay as is I think. Lets hope a fix is released soon. If slingmedia need another test unit to access I can provide my login details too....

It looks like someone also has similar problems of frezing every 5-10mins over the local LAN, see zacox thread "pro pretty good but..." could this be related to the buffer I wonder ?
