OK, different machine, Toshiba laptop running Vista, V1.5 UK, different broadband provider (BT) Same result, works perfectly (wireless to BT hub, 380k buffer full) for 5 mins or so then bombs, down to 70k ish.....
I have a slingbox pro and qwest DSL internet. I upgraded my internet to comcast cable modem today assuming the faster upload speed would give me a better picture. Boy was I wrong. When i first log on everything looks fine and I get speeds of about 800 kbps but then after a few minutes the speed divebombs down to around 100 kbps and the picture gets really glitchy. Did i make a big mistake or is there something I can do to fix this? Any thoughts???
I'm on MacBook Pro,
Pro Sling with 1.0.39 firmware
Slingplayer 1.0.4.209
Anything else I've missed is up to latest update.
Ethernet down in Hong Kong with 10M or so. Upload in Alaska with 384 (354k) somewhere in there.
The wireless connect I had last week in London was flawless.
Is it tied to ethernet? Hard wire issues -- as Andrew had problems? PPOE issues?
Thanks for that link YoBe1, I kept looking for days...I'll give it a shot.

Hi FluidicSpace,
I have same issue wired or wireless. The difference is my wireless speed is about 100k *better* than wired ethernet. It also stays up for longer using the wireless before bombing to about 70k and stopping. Im getting between 1 and 5 mins perfect before it crashes out. Im not convinced the wired v wireless is the cause but is interesting, you would have expected it the other way around.
Tried many differnet buffer settings, best appears to be auto, but in any case it does not hold up.
My friend in the US who accesses my classic (my pro is at his house) has no problems.
Im thinking about putting the old firmware back in but my friend is not too technical and Im worried I may end up with nothing working!
Im hoping this is an issue that the guys are working on....

I have slingbox pro, comcast cable modem hooked to apple airport extreme. Slinging to several macs on the network with routine speeds of 2, 3 & 4 thousand k! If streaming gets choppy I select "control" mode and that seems to fix the problem! Also hooked up apple tv to the hd input, it looks great! Everything is also viewable on my treo 700p at 300k...
I'm testing Vista SP1, so I thought that possibly my connection problems and speed dropping off might have been related to that. I also remembered that I got an update to Slingplayer (v1.5) about the same time that I installed SP1. I uninstalled v1.5 and reinstalled v1.4, and I am no longer having the problems I was just 1 hour ago. I'm happy to say that Vista SP1 was not the cause. My firmware is still at 1.0.39.
Hope this info might help someone else resolve their issues as quickly as I resolved mine.
Hi David,
I have tried V1.4 and V1.5 both do the same for me. I get about 6 mins perfect hovers between 340 - 390k, buffer fills, then at approx 6mins the buffer empties and stops / judders around 70k. If I hit the stop it then play, starts perfectly backup to 350k, buffer full for about 6 mins.....
Am i really going to have to reload the old firmware I wonder....
The firmware is still at 1.0.39, but the software is v1.4. I was having the exact same symptoms: work fine for several minutes, then it would stop or stutter. I would have to disconnect then reconnect and it would work for a few more minutes.
I had to completely uninstall v1.5, then install v1.4 from my programs stash. It's working just like it did before, with no problems now at all. Playback is fine, image quality is awesome, expecially for HD programming.
I can make the v1.4 software available for download if anyone is in need of the software.
Ive got 1.04.0.206 here is this the same one as you are using ? id appreciate a place to download / try it if its different.
next one is maybe try my palm TX see if it does the same.
OK thanks, just trying it again, no change unfortunatly. What settings do you have ? Im finding the default is probably best, but its still unusable with stops every 6 mins.
Yes, I have everything set as default. I could probably tweak ther performance a little by changing some of the settings, but it works great as it is.
I am a technical support specialist for Electronic Data Systems, and do telelphone support. I know how aggravating this type of problem can be, with a fix that works for some but not for others. I've been reading some of the other forum posts, and some other people with other SlingBox models are having similar problems. No one fix seems to work across the board. And a whole lot of people have reported no problems at all with v1.5 of the player software. It would not run for me, and reverting to v1.4 worked. Others have reported having to revert the firmware version back also, but I didn't have to do that. It just gets pretty damned confusing!
Well, I was out again today, and I THOUGHT that the problem had fixed itself, maybe a networking issue in the domicile. I had speeds at 115 kps, but then it went up to 475 kps. I TOUGHT that this was going to be a solution, but then boom, right back to 110-115, and it has been there about 30 minutes.
Anyone have a linky to the downgrade software?
Anyone at sling want to test on this box before I do the downgrade?

No firmware downgrade as yet, thats to come for me I really dont want to do it :-) Any idea where one can get the old firmware from ?
I use my SB pro exclusively on the LAN. I have not set it up for internet access. It worked great with perfect video until a couple of days ago when I (regretfully) updated the firmware to the 9/27 version.
since that time the video is broken most of the time. bit rates range from a low of 300 to a high of 3300. Even at the highest rate it still breaks up.
I suspected a LAN problem, but no other devices seem troubled and I tried disconnecting everything except the SB and the PC from the router with no improvement.
Chats and e-mail with SB tech support were the usual 'take two aspirin and call me in the morning'
this smacks of a buffer problem introduced by the latest firmware.
Since I am LAN only, I think all of the discussion of upload/download speeds are irrelevant to this problem.
I think you are right it looks like a buffer issue. Do you have a copy of the old firmware on your PC ? I think you have to edit it using a hex editor to fool the box its an upgrade.
I think the old firmware is in the sling media program files directory of the machine used to upgrade the pro. I have 4 versions by the looks of it, but Im not sure which one is which. (I have a UK classic SB Freeview box on the lan here, no issues with this one)
