I have the original slinglink and have been using it as a bridge between my xbox and network upstairs. the other day the power went off and now my slinglink's ip address is conflicting with my computers static IP. i assume the slinglink gets its address from dhcp so i tried unplugging it so it would get the next available ip. unfortunately this does not work. is there any way to assign the slinglink ip manually or is there some sort of factory reset? any help is appreciated rob311

Does the Slinklink actually get or require an IP address itself?

I run the Turbo model and never installed any software to run it. Just plugged it in, plugged in my slingbox and the slingbox itself got an address.

If that is the case then it's you Xbox or something causing the conflict.

it still works and grabs an ip but it keeps setting itself to the same ip (and take priority) even if that one is already in use.

Easy solution would probably be to change the IP on the computer..

Slinging Tivo HD from a Pro HD, Tivo Series 2 with cable and DirecTV from a Pro, Tivo HD from a Solo, Humax DRT800 from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO, and a SlingCatcher over Windstream DSL.

The SlingLinks themselves do not have an IP address. It is simply a bridge. Sounds like your Xbox is conflicting. As ryandh said, though, change the address of your computer.

edit: after logging the mystery ip for a day, i kept getting requests for directtv.com. i don't own a satellite, but then i recalled getting woken up the other day by some guys installing a satellite on my neighbors roof (i live in a condo).i went outside, looked at the dish and what do you know, they have directtv.

i figured out that the slinglink from the router was connecting to both the slinglink down stairs and to my neighbors directtv.  Their box must use the same kind of bridges.

installing the cd that came with the slinglink verified that there were indeed 2 bridges connecting to the one upstairs. changing from the default password knocked them offline. now no more ip conflicts.

thanks for the suggestions and one of these days i'm going to break down and get a slingbox

later
