Hi all, first of all I have to say what an amazing product!! I heard about the Slingbox, but didnt realise how fantastic it was until I got one this week!! I have set it up and it seems to stream fine within my home network, reaching 2000kbps+, but I am trying to improve the quality for remote viewing outside the home network.. At present I can only seem to get 150kbps average. I am not sure if the problem is at home, where im slinging from, or at uni, where im slinging to?! At home we have a 2mb BT broadband connection, and at uni I have 2mb connection too, but i am connecting using a wireless Netgear router. Both home and uni computers are Macs... does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can improve the kbps and picture quality...? Im kinda technically minded, but not massively... I read somewhere on the forums that using something called "SSH" can improve the quality, but I dont know what that is?! Thanks in advance guys, Michael

Your download speed at home is 2mb but what is your upload speed?  That's what matters at the SlingBox location..

I see what you mean yes..! that was a bit stupid of me posting the download connection speed!! :S Is there an easy way to accurately determine my upload speed?!

I usually use http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest.  Sling used to have their own but it doesn't seem to be working..

I have a newbie problem too. I can only access the Slingbox when wired, as soon as I use my wireless card it becomes unavailable.

Any offers out there?

Hi ryandh, I tested the upload speed, as you suggested and on one site it was showing as 237kbps and on another was showing 239kbps. So Im guessing thats not good...! I can test it again at a different time of day, but I dont suppose that will make a massive difference? Is there anything I can do to try and improve my upload speed, or do I need to speak to my ISP about this? Thanks again for your help!

Check with your ISP and see if you can upgrade.  Depending on how important it is to you, many people change their ISP to get a better upload..  Sounds like they probably advertise 256.  I would think you'd get better than 150 with the SlingBox though.
