I have the same issue, did you ever find a solution?

I asked for technical support and the tech tried to install it on my PC with the same end result. I was told to contact the manufacturer of my PC to remove the software.

Has anyone been able to circumwent this problem?

Win2k on a core 2 box? Interesting.

I've installed SlingPlayer on several Win2K machines, but never one with that new of hardware. First, make sure you have installed all updates from MS through Windows Update, including the DirectX 9.0c upgrade.

If that doesn't work, make sure your hardware is properly supported by Windows 2000. Maybe there's a driver issue somewhere.

I think DirectX is now at 10 for Vista.

I am trying to install on an XP Home SP3 machine, and have exactly the same issue. Got the install to work on a Vista laptop on this network, but no luck with the XP machine. Used MS own Install cleanup utility. Actually suspect the installer logic bad for XP SP2+ as they don't have multi-laguage support loaded for English machines. Anyone ever fix this problem. Helpdesk couldn't get any farther than I did.

Found the problem...

Turned out that the directory it creates has read only privileges too soon and can't create all the files. I made sure that the C:\Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer directory and everything under it was set to Full Control for administrative users and then turned off the Read Only flag on C:\Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer and everything under it as well.

Then I reran the SlingPlayer installer and chose the repair option. All fixed!
