Is there a way to record a show from my slingbox window to a DVD burner on my computer.  Thanks TB

No with one exception.

If you can find an old version of the player software you can run it and record the stream using At Large Recorder from Appian. That will record the stream as an AVI file (I think that's the type) which you could then burn.

But you'll have to see if someone can provide you with an old version of the player from about 18 months ago. The reason is that after that Sling started encrypting the video stream. All the new players enforce the encryption.

The At-Large Recorder will record to a ASF file - you can then burn this file to a DVD.  You will need to find software that can convert the ASF file to a standard DVD format, if you are hoping to play the DVD on your home AV system.   If I have recorded something that I would like to keep on DVD, I will replay ASF recording through my S-Video and audio outputs of my PC to my standalone DVD Recorder.

The newest version of the At-Large Recorder can be found at

http://www.applian.com/at-large-recorder/

I do not have have a copy of the older player, but you can find most of what you need in this thread:

Though you do not need it with the newest version of the At-Large Recorder, you will also find a link to the older player that is needed to work with the older At-Large Recorder.

Note that this is not a page I maintain - I just happen to see it posted on the forum and can point you to it.  I downloaded it several months ago and had no problems at that time, but cannot vouch for its integrity at this time.  I would encourage you to run virus checkers against any downloaded software.

At-Large Recorder 2.0 doersn't require an older version of the Player or firmware. In fact, you don't need to use SlingPlayer at all!

You can try it free with up to 5 minutes of video here:

SWEET! Glad to see that. Now, can you make it for the Mac? :)

Be really nice if you allowed the At Large Recorder 2 to do Daily or Weekly Recordings. I have to manually set up Dave Letterman 5 times a week to get it to record. Previously you have the ability to do daily recordings or recordings M- F. Why were these removed. The new version requires way to much manual work. Love the product but features are lacking at the current moment.

It can be done using the At-Large Recorder.

The newest version of the At-Large Recorder allows a weekly schedule to be set - so you can record the same time slot for 13 weeks.  That will allow 13 weeks of Mondays to be recorded.

The newest version of the At-Large Recorder also allows multiple instantiations - you can set up 13 weeks of recordings for five days (Mon-Fri) using five instances of the recorder.

Also, since you can save a setup using a name of your choosing, duplicating a recording for multiple days is simply a matter of changing the day/date of the initinal recording after you select the named recording.

The only caveate is that you cannot have two instances of the At-Large Recorder recording at the same time.

Unfortunately the new At Large v2.3 doesn't send a code to turn on my external PVR box prior to starting a recording.  It does send the code to change channels, but since it doesn't send the "PowerOn" code, it ends up recording 5 mins of blank video - not very useful.

Since I only have "always on" cable connected to my SlingBox, I am not faced with this problem.  Have you contacted Applian to see if there is a solution?  The staff at Applian have always been responsive to my inquiries.  They may or may not be able to address your problem, but unless you ask we will never know.

Seems like a pain to run 5 instances of the application on my machine. Would be really nice to just say record at these times during the week.  Not very good logic to run an application 5 times from a usability stand point. Also, Not liking the way they name your files. It shoudl name the files what title you give the recoridng with the date and time. I never know what was recorded because the file name is now just a date and time.

Usability wise At-large needs some help to really use it on a dailt basis. The application should run Minimized to your system tray and automatically record at specific times. This way you do not have lots of instances running on yoru desktop and can do actually other work on the machine you are recording with. You should be able to just set up schedules for every program and give it a time to record and tell it to record daily or weekly till canceled or deleted.

NigelS,

Just leave your DVR turned on all the time - the power consumption difference is minimal since DVRs are effectively on all the time anyhow. That is what I do with mine.... For that matter, why do you want to record with AtLarge when you have a DVR?

Not very ecologically minded. Also the DVR is in a enclosed space and generates masses of heat when it is on.  At-Large is the easiest way to get programs/clips I want to keep, into the Digital domain.

I am working with Applian on the issue. If they can send a channel code they can also send the PowerOn / PowerOff codes.
