I would like to know how many people have classic singboxes that have upgraded to the latest 1.0.99 firmware.

Tell me if you are still able to use your box and if so for how long ?

Tell me if your box failed right away ?

Tell me if you upgraded and it was ok until you removed the power and now it reboots all the time?

if possible please list your serial number but not your finder ID ?

Have you contacted support and if so did they help you or not?

did support point the blame to a router problem or network issue ?

I upgraded mine and it worked fine until it had no audio and after a power cycle it failed to come back to life....now all it will do is reboot after about 1 to 2 min and can only be connected to via the local lan....after which it will tell me that it needs to be programmed and when I put all the info into the box it will still not allow internet connection....only local lan and it will repeat the same promt of needing to be programmed.

I also tried to reprogram the box but can't get passed the promt of needing to be programmed.

Milton,

To answer your poll, I upgraded one of mine. No problem at all.

Even did it from a wireless laptop, to the main router, to the wireless bridged router.

If you are looking for somethng special will be glad to downgrade and upgrade again to help you test something.

Also, you didn't post your poll answers. Wink

yea Idid the samething you are doing but after a while it failed, right after I did a power cycle.

I will be updating my pole info as soon as sling media gets back to me next week.....but I have already talked with support and they were no help...all they could do was keep insisting it was a network problem and for me to update my router.

I then got in touch with Garret kline and he was very helpful in getting me moved up to a higher level of support and I have a phone appointment on monday to have them see for them self the problem that is going on with my slingbox.

My pole is for people that have had experenice with this problem and have already went through the process.

I want sling media to see how many people are having this issue.

just out of curousity what vintage box do you have is it a newer classic or is it of the 2005 vintage as this is when my was made...I bought the very first slingbox from compusa in vacaville california.

I have several boxes classic and newer. In the case I spoke about above is on a later model classic.

But I do have one that is 50503418 and a Larussa box but don't know the model # on it.

ok guys great input but the pole is meant for the people that actualy do have issues with there classic slingbox....but I do appreciate your input.

Also just FYI I was able to finally get past the the programming info and get to the firmware section of the menu and was able to reprogram my box back to the 1.0.89 and now it is once again up and working without issue.

WHEW!!!!  thought I was going to have to give up my first box ever.....well let that be a lesson to me...now that my box is working again I don't think I will ever do another upgrade ever as it does what I want it to and thats watching the news from california while living in Thailand.

Not that one yet. Would be glad to if it will help you. What are you up for? Direct cat5 LAN upgrade, wireless, etc. Also could do a WAN upgrade, but won't be somewhere in the next couple of days where I can do so.

which ever is easest...I want to thank you for you help with this...keep in mind I was saying the same as you guys that my box worked fine with the new firmware but after the audio went out and I power cycled the box that was when the problem came to life.....but it was up for about 3 weeks...I really think there is a problem here but what exactly it is I dont know.

Ok, installed running latest firmware, reset box, went through setup wizard and running fine at this time. FYI, I always assign static addresses and set the port in my router's config.

Will let you know if I  have a prob.

Godfrey it sounds as if you have a Solo and not a classic...but to answer your question the firmware is in the c:\programs files\slingmedia\slingplayer directory and usually if you have downloaded the latest player it will promt you to install new firmware if it exist.

So I would not worry at this point since you just got your box

Here is an interesting update......

Let this be a lesson to all of us.....well it turns out that the whole problem was a faulty power supply, but I still don't think I will risk going back to 1.0.99 as I am happy with 1.0.89

I noticed that when I was able to get past the programming promts my friend had told me he had put my box in place of his and had not used my power supply.....so I asked him to check the voltage of mine and compare it to his and the voltage was off by 1.5 volts...it should be 6+ volts.

a bad power supply can cause all kinds of problems including faulty firmware programming, no audio and the box power cycling making it look as if the box is rebooting.

I guess after two years of being on continuous it has a reason to go bad.

This is probably a different issue but I have one of the 1st gen Slingbox, don't have the serial number at the moment, but sometime in the past two weeks audio stopped working. I have not upgraded the firmware. Current firmware version: 1.0.6.0

well had my phone appointment with slingmedia and they regonize the bad power supply and are going to send me one free of charge.

What I would do if I were you Jeff is first check the power supply and change it if possible and then upgrade your firmware to atleast 1.0.89 (if you need the firmware just email me with your email address and I will send it to you via email).....if this still does not fix your box then I would get a support call open for your box and document the problem so atlease slingmedia has something to go by to fix the problem of everyones boxes.

Keep in mind if we all just goto the community and never call tech support how are they going to know if there is a problem.

Spent an hour on the chat with 3 different Sling Media techs - they were able to connect to the Slingbox without audio. Connecting with AV cable and with Coax. No audio from either connection. First they said to try a different cable then to try a reset. Neither worked. I'll see what happens with a new powersupply...

Does anyone have links to instructions for updating/downgrading the firmware manually rather than through the Slingplayer software? How about links to different firmware versions? How can I backup/download the 1.0.60 firmware so that I can downgrade if I need to?

SerNo: SB100-100-60304672
Firmware: 1.0.60

I just bought a used SlingBox Classic after I read some of the problems you guys were having.

I connected everything but needed to reset the box to get rid of the previous owner's password etc. I tried connecting and it said I must run the setup wizard first. It then gave me the dreaded "stream in use" error. I tried everything. I called support later today from work nd the tech said unplug the power cord for a full ten minutes. Now I can occaisionally get to the "enter your country" part before it locks up and the lan light goes out. I read about the power supply thing and checked mine. It was a 12 volt adapter! The slingbox says it needs six. I went down to the junk drawer and found a six volt one and attached the cord from the original ensuring the polarity was correct. I powered it up and all is well! I was sure I bought a brick! I dont know what the deal was with the adapter or if it was a replacement the previous owner had bought and made his box unusable.

Any way, I'm happy!

BTW - firmware version when reset went to 1.0.96. I don't know if it was any different before I reset.

H/W version is 1.0.23

Milton,

My Slingbox Classic is 800 miles away and my brother upgraded the box and it hasn't worked since.  He is pretty computer illiterate.  Please send me the instructions on how to 'downgrade' things back to the way they were.  It's been almost a month since my Slingbox has worked.

Thank you.

November 9, 2007 9:21 AM

I don't have my Slingbox nearby to post the serial number, but I am running 1.0.99 just fine.

November 9, 2007 9:37 AM

I've had 1.0.99 loaded on my Classic since the first day it was available, with no issues what-so-ever.  My hardware is Version 1.0.2.  It is currently streaming at over 3,000Kbps as I'm writing this...
