Hi, i am hoping for some help and ideas here...

I got the Comcast, $10 upgrade with 8mb down and 766kbps up to improve my slingbox stream from the 355kbps i was getting.

what happens, is when i turn on a SB stream, the bit rate will climp up to about 700-900, then it will start dropping till it is back to around 355, exactly what i used to get BEFORE i payed $10 extra a month. anyone have an idea about what might be happening?

have anyone else experienced this before? i've called comcast but the support person has no idea what i am talking about, and offered to downgrade my service. but i just want better slingbox streaming!

thanks so much for any feedback.

It could be that Comcast is noticing alot of activity from the upstream side in your area, and they could be cutting down some of that signal to the closest place to you.  Plus, since comcast doesn't send you an actual designated internet signal, it is shared ammoungst you and your neighbors, you will loose alot of signal strenght in peak hours of internet usage.

I would suggest even calling Comcast to let them know why you are paying for the extra bandwidth, usually they assume people want the better downstream, not up, see what they say.

good luck man

Comcast has a deal called powerboost that starts out fast and then slows down.  It's been talked about here and elsewhere.  The idea is that if you're sending a big email the boost should cover it but not extended streaming.  Tough to say if there's anything that can be done about it..

Slinging Tivo HD, Tivo S2, and OTA from a Pro HD, Tivo HD from a Pro, Tivo HD from a Solo, and Humax DRT800 from a Classic to iPhone, Dell Inspiron 1520 with Sprint EVDO, and a SlingCatcher over Mi-Connection cable with 2Mbps upload.

FWIW, I think there is hope because I did the same thing (upgraded to 8Mb down, 766Kb up w/Comcast) and am now getting sustained bit rates of 630-640 Kbps (per the SlingPlayer client).

I've only recently upgraded and only let the stream play for 15 minutes or so, but I gather that you saw the dropoff within the first few minutes?

So maybe:

1. Comcast misconfigured/provisioned your service

2. The throttling behavior is something they used to do (i.e. when you posted) and don't anymore

3. Comcast works differently in different locations
