Hi all, Here's the situation: The slingbox is located at my parent's house which is across the country. It has been working fine for months. Today their power goes off and now it doesnt seem to be connecting. The power is back on now and the internet is working. They say that both lights for the slingbox are on. However, when I try to reconnect it just says "Connecting..." for a long time and then gives me an error message that says, "Connection Failed You can't connect to Slingbox right now. Make sure it's set up for remote viewing, and that the network router teh slingbox is connected to has the correct port forwarding settings." We have tried unplugging everything, but that doesn't seem to work. I will not be get back there for about a month and so my laptop will not have a chance to be on the network where the router is located. Oh and I am on a Macbook Pro and have a slingbox av. So here is my question: Can I fix this problem without having to bring my computer back to my parent's house and just do "find the slingbox" from my current location? Thanks in advance for any help.

That's strange. I am experiencing the EXACT same problem under almost the exact same circumstances.

I too live remote and the Slingbox AV is at my parents house. They too had a power outage yesterday and we can no longer connect as well.

My mom has the Slingbox software on her computer as well, but she too is unable to connect. I am at a loss as to what to do. It has been working fine for months, even though several other power outages.

The Slingbox itself appears to power on and cycle though fine, but of couse looks can be deceiving. We have reboot all computers, DISH receiver, and the Slingbox itself.

The error I am receiving says:

---------------------------
SlingPlayer
---------------------------
Your Slingbox is unable to communicate with the Slingbox Finder, or you entered an incorrect Finder ID. Check your Finder ID and make sure remote viewing is enabled for your Slingbox. If the ID and settings are correct, check your home network and router.

All the network settings are fine, nothing has been changed.  One minute we were watching a movie on the Slingox, the next *poof*, power goes out across the world and we have had nothing since.

Any suggestions anyone? Frown

wow, glad you two posted this, I have my slingbox pro set up in my home in Ireland, it works fine, this week I went to Nice France ,checked into the hotel and got the same message as you are getting, I also brought the laptop to three different pubs and got the same error message, one thing that also happened is that when I connected to the internet , the signal was always low but when I changed the IP properties to let it find an IP automatically, the signal strenght zoomed to excellant, don't know why that is happening.  I am back in Ireland today, powered up the laptop and it connected to the slingbox first time...... don't know why this happened but would love to find out.

Thanks for that , but can anyone explain what the connection is poor when I have a static adress but is excellant when it is allowed to assign an IP adress automatically?

Regards,

Noel

I have a very similar situation... I'm in London and my Slingbox is at my apartment in Detroit. There was an ice storm recently (in Detroit) and the power went out for a few hours. Now my slingbox doesn't work. I've had my sister unplug everything for 30 and then 60 seconds and plug it back in but to no avail. I have a linksys router that's hardwired to the slingbox. In these cases is it he IP address that has changed on the router or has the IP of the slingbox changed? I'm a bit confused. If someone could give me some practical advice I'd really appreciate the help. I just really need to get this thing back up and running. British TV really sucks and my slingbox is my only link to civilization! (plus I really miss the Wings and Pistons) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Call Slingbox Tech Support.  They will help you straighten everything out.  That's the best advice I can give you.

Sad to see this board doesn't work with Safari.

I have exactly the same problem as bigjimunc. The Slingbox actually died while I was watching it and I cannot reconnect. What is strange is that if I close everything down and restart the slingplayer it doesn't ask me for a password as usual. I thought it was possible to connect directly using the serial number of the Slingbox but it simply won't do it. As for "British TV sucks" TravisLai, you'd be happy to watch it if you were in Greece believe me!

Did anyone actually find a solution? If so, please let us all know!

Hey there...  Actually I've fixed it!  I had my sis disconnect the power cord from both the router and the slingbox.  I then had her leave both disconnected for about 5 minutes.  Then she powered up the router, and after about 3 minutes she plugged in the slingbox and viola! works like a charm!  Give this a try and maybe it'll work for you.  As far as the password, it never asked me for it through all of this.

Well done TravisLai!

I tried the same (except it was my bro not my sis who did it!) and I am now back in business.

And British TV is great! Laughing

Hi there,  I have 2 computers, let me name it as 'Old A' & 'New B' computer.

My 'Old A' computer which had slingplayer program works fine with the newly changed linksys wrt54g.

But when I install a new slingplayer program into 'New B' computer (Window XP or Vista), I received the above error message when I tried to connect to my slingbox.

Realised this only happened after I changed my router to linksys wrt54g.

I have tried to turn off all firewall & change router settings according to the slingbox specifications.

Appreciate your help & guidance

The same thing happened to me.  Power outage (during March madness!!). When it came back on,  the sling box was somehow disabled. My husband was watching from work, so he was naturally freaking out.  Anyway, I unplugged the Linksys router, the wireless bridge and the sling box and waited about 5 minutes.  I then plugged them in, in that order, waiting about 2-3 minutes in between each device. Worked perfectly.
