I know the title is a little misleading, but its BetaNews' headline. Wink

You can read their article here.  The meat of the information is this though.

Francie Bauer, EchoStar's corporate communications manager, told BetaNews that EchoStar's plans for CES include the announcement of Sling Mobility Package, a bundle that will bring together an EchoStar HD-DVR receiver and Slingbox SOLO - both of which are HDTV-capable - with EchoStar's TV programming offerings.

Basically all they are saying is that Echostar is going to put together a Solo with HD-DVR receiver package.

It sounds like it might be a marketing tool - as stated, it does not require a technology change.

All that says is Dish will lease you a SB instead of you having to buy one..  Probably $10/month so after 18 months you might have well have bought it..

Doesn't say anything about being built in..

I have had Tivos since 1999 and never bought a lifetime plan.  I should have but overall I don't mind the monthly cost of getting something I get a value out of..

Slinging Tivo HD from a Pro HD, Tivo Series 2 with cable and DirecTV from a Pro, Tivo HD from a Solo, Humax DRT800 from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO, and a SlingCatcher over Windstream DSL.

They are not going to lease you one, its just that the Sling will be made avalable for sale from Dish Network retailers.

I am waiting for the Dish ViP822 which will have the Sling hardware built in.  (BTW its NOT rea. yet... but I am sure it WILL happen in the future) :D

Imagine Echostar with the abiltity to watch and monitor EVERYTHING you watch over the Sling. This is one of the most unfriendly companies in existance to consumers. Why would you want that with a built-in Slingbox?
