hi

many of us have been having problems where hte player has a blank black screen, no audio and a very small download speed of 1-8kbs. The slingbox can be viewed from other locations and your player can view other slingboxes. THE FIX IS IN!!!!

Its to do with the MTU size of the packets that your slingbox sends out. I had it on 2 of my playes and the fix worked for both. You have to make a change to an ini file and apply the new setting to your slingbox. This should be an optin in the wizard but it is not.

anyway, here are the instructions from slingmedia...

This problem is caused by the so called MTU value of the router not being set to a proper value.

There is a workaround for you that you can try. The first part needs to be done both at the location of the Slingbox and in the US. Testing of the connection speed can of course only be done at a remote location.

Quit the SlingPlayer application

Open \Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\SBCore.ini in NotePad In the [SBIL] section, add the following after: PingTimeout=30000

MTUSize=1108

Save the changes.

Launch the SlingPlayer

Re-run the network wizard to apply the settings to the box. (this step can only be done when at the Slingbox)

Connect remotely and note the connection speed.

If it doesn't work, change MTU on router to a lower value (1482, 1472,

1452...)

Hi - any chance you could suggest a similar fix for a Mac??? Need help!

Thanks.

its not the player end, so it does not matter if its a pc or mac. Its the mtu packet size on the slingbox. If the mac slingplayer does not have an ini file that you can make the same setting changes to on the lan of the slingbox, i would suggest borrowing a pc laptop, downloading slingplayer, changing the ini and applying the settings to the slingbox.

Is this only applicable to SlingPlayer, or is it also applicable to the SlingPlayer Mobile application.  I've never encountered the scenario described while using the SlingPlayer software on a PC (or Mac).  I have this exact situation on my SmartPhone.

try it out and see - you can apply the mtu size change to the slingbox and then remove the line in the setting file and apply again to undo it.

Is this mainly for people who have their slingbox on a DSL) or other MTU limited connection) or people viewing from a MTU limited connection?
