So, running the latest SP 1.5xx, I just put this on a new Lenovo X61 Tablet, with the SXGA+ resolution, I have it set at 1400, dpi scalling a bit, 120 instead of the tiny 96.  But, even with the SAME settings as my trusty T43, which was an XGA screen the video on the new X61t is quite pixleated?

Anyone notice anything like this, could it be the SXGA resolution, or something else.  Is there another setting to set, for smooting?

Check your settings under slingplayer, options.  smoothing, vmr9, etc..

Sure enough, all settings are as they should be.  smoothing is enabled, vmr9 is enabled, same as on my T43, which looks great.  No special graphics card on the T43, this X61t is brand new.

I switched it back to standard dpi, 96, and it made no difference

I had the same problem for several months with my VAIO laptop running Vista. I even called Sling Tech Support, but they couldn't fix the problem. I searched these forums and google for the answer, but only found questions like yours. I was ready to install OS X on this thing in an attempt to fix this. Well, I just found out what the problem was for me, and I'm ecstatic about it. The issue was qttask.exe, the QuickTime taskbar process. It was preventing Vista from running the AERO desktop (whatever that means), and preventing Slingplayer from using VMR. I found that for me VMR was sufficient to improve the pixelation dramatically, and I couldn't tell much if any improvement with VMR9.

So, check to see if you have QuickTime installed and if so, disable the taskbar process from loading.

Sure hope that works for everyone having the same issue, and I think Sling Tech Support needs to know about this, as well.

So, here are some screen shots, not sure how easy it is to see, but the screen quality on BOTH of these tablets is MUCH WORSE than on my T42?  anyone have any ideas?  Is this a video codec issue, or VISTA issue, or graphic card issue?

Any the TEXT just looks like crap.

From the screenshots it looks like a video card issue....

What color quality are you using?

color quality, for this shots, or for the screen?  I have the screen at 32bit at the moment.

The quality on the tablet.  I've had similar issues when the color quality was on a lower setting.

Try disbaling vm9

well,  I have tried disabling VM9 and enabling it.  The video quality is just SOOO CRAPPY, I cannot believe it.  It is so much worse than any other slingplayer that I use.  I have been using my sprint mogul more than a laptop, since the SP on the laptop is soo crappy.

If this is a video card issue, ( I cannot belive that this brand new decked out lenovo tablet is so much worse than my four year old T41 laptop - which looks great!)

But, I cannot get past this crappy pixel, blocks across the screen and peoples faces

i have a new lenovo x61 laptop running vista 64bit, and have the same exact issue.  it looks like a video driver problem, but i have the latest video driver from lenovo. my video card is integrated Intel 965 express.  if anyone has any luck I would like to know also.

thanks

Well at least there is comfort in numbers

i found a workaround, although it is not the most ideal solution.

i was able to get smooth video play by changing windows display setting to aero.  i prefer not to do that since it makes vista run slower (i have vista 64bit), but for now its the only way i can get slingplayer to display properly.  it seems like an issue with slingplayer and x61-vista since i can play videos in windows media player or quicktime just fine with no pixelation.  but i dont seem to hear other laptop model users complain about slingplayer pixelation in non-aero vista display so i am not sure what it really is.

i dont think this is an issue with x61-winxp-slingplayer either, seems specific to vista.  i wonder if vista enables vmr only in aero setting and disables it in all other display settings.

let me know if that helps or not.

btw, just curious are you running vista 32 or 64 bit?
