Hi everyone,

I just upgraded from a Classic to a Pro. I'd like to take advantage of the 640x480 native resolution while I'm on LAN -- but even after manually configured Sling Player to display 640x480, the player is still staying 320x240. Is there some special way to configure the player that I don't know about? I thought when I installed the new SB, I'd automatically get 640x480 on LAN...

I'm running Win2K, firmware 1.0.11, player version 1.4.0.206, using S-Video connection (no HD yet.)

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

In the video options area, you'll see a slider for Home Network Quality (Player --> SlingPlayer Options --> Video tab). The two most right options will enable LAN viewing for 640x480. You'll also want to make sure your firmware is up to date by downloading SlingPlayer 1.5 from Sling's site.

Thanks Matt. Hmm, I've performed all of the upgrades and the changes per your instructions; but the player is still displaying only in 320x240. Do I need to physically resize the player window? Then I thought by changing the Video Resolution option in the Encoding tab would change the player size, but that wasn't it. Am I doing something wrong? Frown

(Update: Seems like if I uncheck "Fit TV to Window", I will get 640x480 resolutio -- but only after I maximize the player size -- then technically I'd be in full-screen mode, but the video is not full-screen any more.)

In order to display at full resolution, your SlingPlayer window does need to be large enough to allow for video of that size. The physical size of the video will vary in window mode depending on how large the window is.

I'm actually thinking that you have a different problem. Provided all your settings are correct, if you're not getting full res when viewing on LAN, you may have a problem with how your network is configured. Meaning, you're actually connecting via the Internet, which would limit your viewing resolution to 320x240 unless you disable SlingStream and manually set the resolution. You'll also get less performance that way too, since you're not taking full advantage of your network's capabilities.

When you pull up your Slingbox directory, it should say "LAN (Available) underneath your Slingbox. If you don't see that, then your SlingPlayer and Slingbox are not on the same network.

Check that and post back.

Would the fact that this was an upgrade from a SlingPlayer that could only display 320x240 have anything to do with it? For some reason even when I did a complete uninstall and reinstall, the old configurations and settings still remained (even though I specified not to retain anything.)

Here's a screenshot of the player during streaming.

The window size is pretty small. Uncheck Fit TV to player and maximize the window. That will show you the full streaming resolution.

You can also try uninstalling SlingPlayer and reinstalling it. That may help if your theory is correct.

spiffy,

First why do you think your are not getting 640x480? Because the window size did not change when you upgraded?

First, when watching your Slinplayer enter ALT-Shift-I.This will bring up a window that will show you your detailed stats. See what resolution it says your are streaming at.

You can resize the player window to whatever size you want to, when watching it.

OK, now I feel pretty stupid...  I guess it has been streaming in 640x480 all along; but because the default size of the player was 320x240, I thought that was the resolution being streamed.

Please correct me if I'm wrong; but is the only way to resize the player window is by dragging?  Is there any way to fix-size the player window so it can only alternate amongst 320x240, 640x480 and full screen (I only have standard definition now; but I imagine the same can be applied to HD?)  This may sound very OCD; but I feel once I resized the player by dragging, I'll never be able to get it back to the exact 320x240 or 640x480 sizes -- I have this very issue in fact with my remote Sling Player at work, and the text on my Tivo Menu always look slightly distorted.

But thanks for the help, everyone -- mystery solved.

When you drag it the aspect should always be automatic and not have any stretching.  Play with the different video size options when you right click on the picture.  Alt Shift ] cycles through them too.
