I just arrived in Florida for the winter the other day, and fired up my slingbox to catch some of the Knicks game.  I got a Connection Failed message.  Prior to leaving home, everything was working fine and I had no problems last winter.  All of the equipment on both ends is the same.  Short of driving 1200 miles to see what the problem is, can anyone suggest something that can be done on this end to resolve this situation? I can probably have someone go check things out on the New Jersey end if need be, but I'd rather be able to fix it on this end.  Thanks.

For the future, if you have a computer at home that you leave on, load logmein.com or another remote control software so you can troubleshoot it remotely.

Ryan,

Thanks for your reply, but the computer at home is not on.  The slingbox is connected to a router, and both of them are on.  If I left the computer on, a power outage (not infrequent in my area) would eventually turn it off anyway.  Is there anything that can be done (on either end) that would resolve this problem?

I assume you're trying to connect from somewhere that you've connected from before?

Can you try from somewhere else to make sure it's not an issue where you're at?

I'd have someone reboot the router and/or slingbox.  Some people that have these issues put a cheap timer on their slingbox to reboot it every night.  Usually these problems are caused by the router or another piece of network hardware but rebooting the slingbox will reconnect it.

If you've been using it regularly and for that long, hopefully it's just an isolated event.

Yes, I've connected from here before.  I used my slingbox all last winter with no problems, and i've used it recently from within my home network.  I'll have someone reboot the router and slingbox and see if that does the trick.

Have you used it from outside your home network lately?  You definitely want to test externally before you leave town.  Sometimes people have to rerun the remote viewing setup, especially if you're using the automatic configuration.  That's where a PC at home can come in handy.

Again, hopefully it's just an isolated incident..

Rebooting both the router and the slingbox didn't help.  I had my son try to connect from his computer, and that didn't work either.  How do I rerun the remote viewing setup?  I'll have my son try that tomorrow.

He couldn't connect at the location of the SB?  If so, have him check the power and connections.

Click Slingbox, Properties, Slingbox Configuration, Network Settings.  This has to be done on a computer on the same network as the SlingBox.

Ryan,

My son was able to make the changes you suggested and everything is working great.  Thanks a lot for your help.
