I was going to get a Slingbox for Christmass. Possibly multiple slingboxes until I found out it didn't have Linux support. Before someone tells me to use wine that is completely unexceptable. I want something that does more than just work. I want to to work reasonably well. Wine is only a last resort answer when nothing else works. Other companies are producing slingbox-like devices that support Linux, and I will probably purchase one or more of these instead. So if Slingmedia wants to sell me or my family and friends Slingboxes start supporting Linux-or we'll go elsewhere.

Which boxes work with Linux??

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

Checksumcoder has claimed that his recording solution can also be used on a Linux box to view the SlingBox stream.  I don't know if that is true, but you might check with him or check out his software.  You should be able to do a search here and find the details needed to use his set of tools.

I too have been waiting for a native linux client. I was thinking about upgrading to a solo (for HD) but it doesn't do me much good if i can't find a player for it. Right now I can only run the windos player on VMWare.

I've noticed that many of the networks (ABC, NBC, FOX) have released browser-based (flash) players for content directly over IP. I find myself using these free services more often than my slingbox these days, and this disappoints me.

I'm not sure what the technical obstacles are, but it would seem that Sling could keep their client source closed (if that's their concern) and still deploy accross multiple platforms simultaneously by using flash.

You might want to check this out, until or if there is ever a native Linux Slingplayer release.
