I have a sling solo running on a verizon fios network. It works fine when i'm in the house but when i am remote, my streaming freezes every 10 minutes or so. any idea what could be causing this?

I have same kind of problems in Europe with Slingbox A/V. It works normally ok for few minutes or longer and then it freezes.

I noticed when video has frozen I can still send remote controls or look properties of Slingbox ok. It looks like that PC's Slingplayer software is able to control the Slingbox in some way when video has frozen.

Unfortunately Slingplayer software or Slingbox is not able to recovery the video freeze situation automatically.

You need to do recovery by manually, by pressing Stop and Start buttons.

I would say that's quite unintelligent design. It would be pretty easy to build some detection of video freeze situation and make recovery happen automatically.

I was having the same problem the past couple of weeks.  I have an Actiontec router from Fios.  I noticed that the router was actually restarting itself every 4 minutes or so.  I called Fios and they had Actiontec send me a firmware upgrade for the router.  No more problems.  I tested it while travelling the past 3 days and it worked great.

Hi,

I have Fios as well and was having the same problem, but I followed the following steps posted by Jesus Colon and I've been fine since.  The picture quality has improved as well... Hope it helps.

1-First download the latest version of the firmware, the link provided below is for the US version under windows XP:  http://download.slingmedia.com/firmware/SlingboxFirmwareUpdate.exe

2-Once you have installed the latest version, please go to: start/programs/Sling Media/Slingbox Setup Wizard to go into the settings.  There you will see the wizard, click on next and go through the settings to ensure all settings are correct.

3-Once you complete this step you will need to go into your router's settings.  In order to identify your router's ip address please do the following, for many users this will be 192.168.1.1 however if you have a different system please go to start/run, please type in the open field: cmd and press enter, this will bring up a black screen, please type in ipconfig and press enter.  Your ip address will be identified in this step, please use the number identified as the ip address on the list and enter it into your web browser.  This will allow you to access your router's settings, it will ask for a user name and password which you should be familiar with.

4-Once you are in the router's settings you will want to look for a sub tab called: Port Range Forwarding under Applications and Gaming.  Please enter under application: Sling Media, Port range start and end enter 5001 for both, protocol will stay as both, enter 237 at the end of the ip address listed and click on the box to enable the connection.  Remember to save your settings so that the changes can be updated in your router.

5-You're all set, last part is to launch you sling player and click on the watch button, once connected you will click on Player, Slingplayer Options and under the  Video, Encoding, Connection and Preferences tabs you will want to press the Original settings button on each of these.

6-You're all set, congratulations you should not see the screen freeze or the sound disappear.  Good luck and hope this is helpful!

Hey all,

I actually just posted about this same issue and didn't see this topic.  I have FiOs and my remote view would hang at 6 mins or so.  I finally just setup the IP of my Slingbox to DMZ Host.  It works perfectly now.  Hopefully this works for some of you guys.

What do you mean about the DMZ host? Is this an actiontec router?
Thanks.
