Hi, I'm having a few problems setting up my slingbox pro. I'm unable to get free to air digital channels, I know the aerial picks them up as when the aerial is connected to my tv it has an inbuilt FTA digital tuner and I gets loads of channels. With it connected to the slingbox I can only recieve analogue channels, is the FTA tuner not as selective! duff! any ideas. I get sky perfect as well. cheers n0v

Which model do you have?  I know there have been some issue with the PAL Classic but haven't heard anything yet on the Pro.

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

I'm slightly confused by this posting.  Are we talking US or UK/Europe?   If it is USA then as far as I know the built-in tuner is only analog (I have a Classic, so maybe the Pro has an updated tuner?) so would not pick up FTA digital.   If it is UK then the built-in tuner is digital, so how could you pick up analog channels?

Need a bit more info.

Hi,

thanks for the replies. The model I have is (from the box) Sling Media Sling Box Pro - SB200-110 and I'm in the UK.

When setting up the sling box I am able to choose either a built in analogue or digital DVB-T tuner and search for channels. The box only finds channels when it is searching for analogue ones, it will not pick up any digital channels.

I have now progressed further in trying to find an answer and to help technical suppport when I call them. I know the aerial picks up digital channels due to the following. When the aerial is connected to my TV which has a built in traditional analogue and a digital free to air receiver I get channels found from both sources, 5 for the analogue and 70 for the digital side which is what I would expect.

I have now used a stand alone digital free to air reciever and connected this up to the sling box and again I receive the digtal channels. This is mainly to test the aerial and be sure I can receive digital channels from at least two different pieces of equipment. Due to this I'm pretty convinced that it is the Slingbox at fault here and the inbuilt digital tuner is not functioning correctly.

Support may be able to help here and suggest some options to kick it back into life. The firmware was updated on installation by the install process, may be reflashing it may help but I am going to wait to speak to technical support when they are open.

Everything else works like a dream and I'm very pleased with the purchase. I've connected to the box over the internet to see if it all worked and it did, the picture quality was good and setup was very simple which was excellent.

cheers

Well no reply from tech support, I'll have to phone them again but don't hold out much hope by the looks of it. I will have to return it for a replacement from Amazon!!!

OK, text chatted to tech support, confirmed what I said, pretty useless, no ideas apart from get another one from amazon.

Who by contrast were great, custome service at its best.

Anyway, my new box is exactly the same, dodgy batch, I know I can recieve digital freeview using my aerial so its not that. It does force me to update the firmware though. Can a Sling media person contact me please, I'm sure they look here. It is pointless sending this one back to amazon as the fault needs to be investigated, not shunted to someone else.

Come on show me some decent customer service and a little respect. I'm trying to help you here!!!

Anyway lets see if anyone helps or I'll try to take it higher, I did that with 3 mobile who have the most terrible customer service in the UK!!!!!!!

I am having the same problem. I live in the UK.

Downstairs in the main room my main TV can receive analogue, digital, Freeview, Sky +, DVDR. Whatever channels are available downstairs are then 'beamed' via a standard aerial wire into the loft space, where there is a booster and multi outlet box. From this box other aerial cables run to most of the other rooms in the house. So upstairs, on the TV (which sits right next to my Slingbox), (which now receives its channels from an aerial wire coming out of the Slingbox!), I can watch all  of those channels regardless of whether they are digital or analogue. But my Slingbox only seems to allow me to tune to either analogue or digital but not both. My family live abroad, and I don't want to be changing the Sky Channel to whatever they want to watch, especially when the football is on!Lots of the channels they watch are available via Freeview.

I had a lenghty 'text' session with the support who concluded your can either tune it to analogue or digital but not both.

Seems a bit naff to me, as the TV sitting 6" away can cope ok!

Where are you up to?

My sling box cannot recieve digital channels at all, the tv can through the same aerial.

The seperate free view box can as well but not either of the slingboxs I've had can recieve anything but analogue. When searching for digital it says no channels found arggggggggg

Pretty poor tbh, no one from slingmedia has answered either which is disappointing.

On the TV Channel SET UP page try the setting entiteld something like "aerial digital fta..", rather than the one entitled "aerial analogue" . I did this and got all of the  fta's but lost all of the anologue channels. Let me know how you get on. I just think you can either have analoghue or digital. On my TV I have to press abutton to tell it if I want to watch analogue of digital. I don't think Slingbox has the equivalent of this 'button'!

Hi,

thanks but there are 3 options, digital, analogue and external box. analogue and external box (using external free to air reciever) work but digital (internal to slingbox reciever) does not and no channels are found!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

Same thing with my SB Pro (I'm also in the UK). I have a USB tuner, so I know my aerial is up to the job. I had a coversation with Sling tech support in December, the upshot of which was that it was probably something that needed fixing in firmware.

Is there anyone out there using the built-in digital tuner in the SB Pro? Or are they all having problems? Does anyone know where I can get an older version of firmware to test this theory out?

Cheers,

Azi

Well I've recieved a reply and it is sort of helpful. It is not a know issue!!! but some people have an issue!!! in that the signal could be to strong so putting a small coax splitter in may help. The also suggest that there is no time scale on a fix and if that is an issue then the option is to return it. Then they ask if I'm willing to help solve a small issue that affects a few people, well as you can see from above I amso I will let you know what happens. I still think it is a great product, and I hope they will be open about this issue a little more as it seems a bit strange. I'm looking forward to it being sorted in the near future!!! n0v

 Hi,

Myself i think its just  that the uk slingboxs have a weak (not very sensitive) digital tunner.

I have fitted a new wideband aerial and cable, but can still only get about 20 freeview channels

Bought a Pro from PC World, had the same problems you are experiencing.  No digi channels on most scans and occassionally got a few, but got full quota when scanning with a separate digi receiver.

Returned the box to PC World and got a refund in case they had a duff batch, then bought a replacement from Play.  This one worked ok, got all the channels when using the digi tuner. But.....the output signal from the antenna out socket is crap.  When I plugged it into another digi tuner it missed some of the channels (the weaker ones) but with the antenna plugged directly into the external digi box, all channels appeared!  Also the quality of the streamed video is rubbish when comparing it to the sky or external digi box stream.

Unless a firmware upgrade can improve the tuner, I think we are going to have to accept that the quality of the internal tuners sling have chosen for the pal models is terrible.  I have given up and opted to use the external box......more wires, electricity and an input used up unnecessarilly.  Not happy.

Anybody else had any problems like this? I have a Slingbox classic which was working fine with the digital tuner until about a month ago. Been in contact with Sling support and they sent me another box. Still the same problem. Works fine with an external freeview box. I am coming to the conclusion aswell that the digital tuner in the slingbox is just not good enough. Any advice would be welcomed. Slingbox support by the way seem like very nice people. They are quick and know what they are doing. I just wonder whether they are aware that the digital tuner is not good enough but don't want to say it.
