My sling box is working on my network but I can not get it to work remotely.

I have a modem and a router.  They have slightly different ip addresses.  Everything else on the network has ip addresses from the router.

I read something about having 2 routers messing up the setup in an earlier thread and am wondering if this might have something to do with my problem.

My equipment is

Slingbox AV, Linksys WRT54GS

I have followed the router tutorial and it still doesn't work.

I was hoping that would fix it.  Unfortunately, when I enter the IP address for my modem it is just an informational page and I can't make any changes.

First thing is what modem do you have?

Second, contact your ISP and ask them to put your modem into "bridge" modem. Tell them you do NOT want it to act as a router. They should be able to do that for you.

I have the arescom netdsl 800

I can't make any changes to it.

the tech support at msn told me that he can't change it either.  I think it is too old for 1st level tech support to know anything

I have found some really old threads where people tried to hack into it and a management program for it but the program doesn't recognize the modem and the threads never got anywhere

any help is appreciated.

Well, then I would see if you can get your modem upgraded. Generally if you've been on an account for a while, they can do that...

Thanks.  I spent a while on the phone with tech support again.  They called Arescom and said there is no way to change the settings.  They won't send me a free upgrade so I guess I'll just have to buy a new modem.

Thanks for all of your help.
