I don't know when it will be released, but am looking forward to seeing if they announce anything at CES.

This was posted today. Unfortunately the blog makes reference to a mid 2008 release:

That's an old post from 2007 and was reference to the mid 2007 release. Haven't gotten used to this 2008 versus 2007 stuff yet. Oh well.. Maybe CES will tell us some good news.
... direct from CES .... its back to Q2 and the price has gone up to $250 ......

Engadget seems to confirm this. They got a little hands-on experience with it at the show. Wish it was better news. Doesn't look all that encouraging.

What a major disappointment...we have to wait up to another 6 months!!
The engadget report didn't sound too encouraging either: "Unfortunately for us, the unit was extremely pre-release, meaning the menus felt sluggish, the device crashed a couple of times, and it generally felt like there was a lack of polish."
You'd think 1 year after the original Slingcatcher announcement they would have shown up at CES with a product that was pretty much ready to go....I guess not.
I think we need to start voting with our pocketbooks.
I have held off buying a slingbox until the slingcatcher is available. If they want me as a customer, they need to stop the vaporware and get a real product out.
I'm not going to buy a slingbox until it can do a true end-to-end onto my TV.
Why on earth would you not buy a Slingbox just because the Sling Catcher has been delayed? This is worse than when people were complaining about the Mac OS client! Sheesh. The Slingbox is a great enough product to stand on its own and deserves to be purchased even if SlingMedia were never to release another product!
Slinging with a Slingbox Pro, a Slingbox Solo and a Slingbox Classic. 3 Replay TV units, a Roku HD1000 Photobridge and a Roku M2000 Soundbridge, an AppleTV, a Vudu, and digital cable. www.na9d.net

The Slingbox is a great enough product to stand on its own and deserves to be purchased even if SlingMedia were never to release another product!I can think of a reason. If your primary use may be to sling video within your home or network then it would make sense to hold off buying a primary unit until the Slingcatcher is available. That was pretty much my plan with the only exception that while I would have much preferred to be able to sling HD content (waiting for Pro HD) I'm a bit of a geek and figured I'd buy the Solo in the meantime to familiarize myself with the technology. I can't sling the content to where I work as they block us from being able to install applications that haven't gone through the lab. My son away at college uses it to check the home town news but outside of that until the SlingCatcher becomes available the Solo is going to get minimal use. QSL?

Just get a used PC for $100 on ebay, and intall slingplayer and a video card with TV out, and get a wireless keyboard an mouse.
The whole thing will cost you less then the slingcatcher.
My They will probably anounce its release at the 2009 CES.
If your idea is to use a Slingbox to stream video from room to room in your home as the primary use, there are better products out there for that. And Fullwave2 - I QSL! :)
Also, Fullwave2 - You can run SlingPlayer from a thumb drive if you can stick one of those in your machine - it doesn't have to be installed ON the machine...

I'll have to look into the thumbdrive suggestion. Sounds interesting. Not sure about running executibles though. They block nearly everything.
As for "better products" out there for streaming DVR content to other TV's in the house I haven't found anything. I have not problem streaming PC content to my TV's via a DSM520 Medialounge but TV to TV with HD conten over the network is something I haven't figured out how to do other than the Slingbox Pro HD and Slingcatcher solution.

Get yourself one of these: http://www.9thtee.com/hdhomerun.htm
and MythTV. Then you can use the MediaLounge to stream... :) It's less than the SlingCatcher/ProHD combo and since you have a MediaLounge already...
Look at me! One of the SlingMedia poster boys or cheerleaders (or so I've been called) recommending another product! ACK! :)
The SlingCatcher definitely has some major appeal. I hope it can address some of my needs for streaming internet video, but it certainly isn't going to be the best solution for everyone.

I don't think that's going to do what I'm looking to do. I have to HighDef DVR's in my home (HomeTheater and Familyroom) and additionally 2 other HighDef TV's up in the bedrooms with non-DVR HD STB's. I want to be able to share the DVR'd HD content from either of the HD DVR's with the HD monitors in the bedrooms. Looks like the Hdhomerun allows you to network nonencrypted QAM STB's but I don't see where they would help me share DVR'd premium content off the existing DVRs. Hope that made sense.
If this is getting off topic we can take this offline. I have your email address. Thanks for the suggestions.
