I recently upgraded to Leopard 10.5.1; am running Slingbox Pro for about a year. When I use SlingPlayer at home, connected to my LAN. I did'nt notice any problems - it streams at about 3,000.

I connect remotely from a large city in Brazil, and inthe past have not had any problems with sporatic speed changes. Normally would run at about 800, giving an excellent video.  I upgraded to the latest SlingPlayer version and then to Leopard. I did not try using the latest SlingPlayer on Tiger from a remote location.

I now experience (from a remote location) a sporatic slow down which goes from normal bitrate to about 76 .  It stutters at this speed until I stop the connection and restart it. Sometimes (rarely) it returns to normal without this action.  I have tried running with manual control instead of automatic,  and also tried changing the buffer period under manual control. It seems as if SlingPlayer or Leopard gets conjested and or confunsed, and when I flush it all out and start over, it returns to normal. It usually runs for 10 or so minuted before the next slowdown.

I have done some limited speed tests on both broadband connections and they appear well within performance specs.  Also I have not seen any similar problems with other streaming or download applications.  So I can reasonablly rule out broadband performance.

Any ideas or similar cases would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with my Mac running Leopard.  I found that I can get good performance via my Sling program running from within Parallels Windows XP Virtual Machine on the Mac.

Same thing happens here in tiger 10.4.11 when LAN viewing no less, seems to happen mainly when viewing sports (nba, nfl, tennis) and sometimes in other program material (movies) though not as often.

Viewing will be fine and then all of a sudden the stream becomes choppy (slow motion) and fuzzy in appearance,
this will last for about 10sec then simply return to normal. Happens roughly every 7-10 min.
Have noticed that the bitrate indicator doesn't always reflect any drop in performance though there are times when it does.
Have yet to figure out why this happens?

After having lived with this situation for several weeks, I have noted the following:

1. Seems to happen more when the internet traffic is more erratic.

2. But, when the internet is extremely fast (off hours in both locations) these slowdowns still occur.

3.It is as if when the transmission rate drops to 0 to 76 Kbps, the system can't recover, and keeps bumping along for a long time.  I have noted that if I disconnect and reconnect rapidly the transmission rate returns to normal. I don't have enough diagnostic tools to isolate where this is happening. I am going to try going back to the last beta version to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for your input.

Any resolution this problem, I am experiencing the exact same phenomena in with a slingbox pro and running on mac os leopard 10.5.1. Interestingly, the same slingbox streams to my smartphone with mobile sling over wifi no problem. It's only a problem on the mac which tells me its not the upload speed--i.e. the slingbox and home network, cable is not the problem.

I have seen no problems on my Macs. FYI, 10.5.5 is the latest software rev. I would upgrade to that for sure. That may fix some problems.

I've been using it with 10.5.5 and there hasn't been any improvement.  It's still a relatively slow streaming rate and often choppy.

My problem started about 2 months ago. Streaming from Time Warner RR in Hawaii at 1MB upload speed. to Comcast in Michigan. Everything worked just fine until August, then I started seeing the same issue. Speeds would start out at 300-400, climb to 600 then drop and freeze at 114. I have to disconnect and connect to get speed back up. I access both a Slingbox Classic and a Slingbox Solo through 2 different MAC's, a MacBook Pro running Leopard 10.5.5 and an IMac PowerPC running Tiger 10.4.11. Same symptoms on both boxes. I also have a Slingbox Tuner in Michigan connected to Comcast. Even that goes to "0" every now and then for no apparent reason. I also see the same problem when accessing through a hotel broadband connection. In HI I use an Airport Extreme 802.11n and an Airport 802.11g in MI. FYI, when I access the MI Sling Tuner I do not seem to have this issue, only the HI boxes. What should I do? Reset both HI boxes(Sling) and the Airport? Change ports? The firmware on the Classic hasn't been updated since 5/05 and the Solo since 9/07 so no issue there as I was streaming just fine until 8/08.I did replace the Airport 802.11n but reset all the id's and ports which must be correct since I am connecting. Help!

I also have had this problem on my mac and pc. I'm in Hong Kong and my Slingbox is in the US. While shutting down the slingbox software sometimes resolves the problem, I found the best way to resolve it is to reboot the modem/wireless router (one unit). That has resolved it every time for me.

I am streaming remotely as I speak with the latest Mac client and my Slingbox Pro. Seeing speeds of 953 to 1200 kbps. So it's working great. Never see the drop-off. I bet dplunk is right and that the routers are wigging out with all the heavy traffic loads.

OK. So I 'll try to reset the entire system in this sequence: Unplug the slingboxes ,restart the cable modem, then restart the Airport, then re plug in the slingboxes. Sound right?

I'm using an Airport Extreme Base Station N as well. But I'm sure it has nothing to do with the router since my old Windows notebook can hold a stable 600Kbps stream while my Macbook Pro can't even hold a stable 120Kbps stream.

All I am having similar issues.

Time Warner Motorola DCH Series DVR Cable box. Ive notice that performance seems okay during live playback, but playback of recorded programs, the image gets scrambled and the streaming speed drops down to about 25%.

I too am using the Mac version of Sling Player on OS X Leopard. This all worked swimmingly well using a Direct TV box, but has turned to tripe since moving and converting to Time Warner. At first I thought is was the cable box, so I exchanged it for a later model.

My suspicion is that on HD playback the cable box is over driving the Sling Box pro by outputting at 1080p as I have received an error code from sling player before. Trouble is the DVR has no setting for constraining down to 1080i. however if this were true Im not sure why it only impacts recordings and not live play back of HD Channels. I cant believe that Macrovision is to blame as I have read no report that macrovision protection is employed for DVR recordings.
