The Sling Player has issues with the dlink-655. You will get constant video freezes and other issues with this router. I had to resort to using a different router just for my slingbox since it was clear Sling had no clue what to do about it.
My Slingbox Pro was working flawlessly with my Netgear WN854T router. I was getting speeds on the order of 1600 Kbps or so...
My Netgear router bricked... again... so I decided to go with the DLINK DIR-655...
Since then I have gotten abysmal speeds... max of 180Kbps... any ideas?

This is a ststement that just doesn't hold true.
I am personally runing a DLink DIR-655 in combinitatin with a slingbox pr, an HR20-700, & PS3 allconnected via ethernet (though the use of a slinglink turbo PEO device).
I further have the following connected though the slingbox pro to stream both internally and remotely to the net:
DirecTV HR20-700 (Via the Component Video HD Connect Cable Interface)
Sony DVD Recorder (Via the composite video connections)
Basic Analog Cable (Via the coaxial tuner connection)
Pansat 3500SD (Via the SVHS with composite audio inputs)
All of which stream fine at 3500-6000 kbps internally on my network; and around 2200kbps remotely (due to my ISP's upload speed configuration package).
In the DLink DIR-655, make sure to set up port forwarding to the internal IP address assigned to the slingbox on port number 5001 (or whatever port you used during the slingbox's selection if you dind't use the default # provided during it's initial setup). Furthermore; you may wish to setup a priority rule under the routers advanced/QOS Engine option screen (again point it to the slingbox's internal network IP address).
I've had ZERO performance issues with this router/slingbox combination. I also have 2 lines of VOIP connected to the router which works flawlessly and correclt scales back the slingbox if needed to preserve incoming voice calls or ones already in progress.
It's all about how you setup the routers configuration screens.
This is WRONG.
If it works for YOU, does not mean it works for everyone else.
There is a problem connecting through a 655 for SOME clients. I have talked to DLink support several times concering this, and they have confirmed it (no resolution though).
I've got 2 remote clients that could not go over 6-700 kbps (25% of my link speed), but using an other router maxed them out as well.

Then I suggest it's the ISP or some other configuration as in hardware or a software setting that conflicts within your and or others networks (ie: such as a setting in a dsl combination modem/router, a swtching hub etc, a wirless bridge etc within your home networks.
If it truely was the DIR-655 it would happen to everyone---->NOT just a few....As I said I am using one without issue so I CAN CONFIRM it's not a product wide issue. This may be the reason why DLink tech support cannot determine what the cause is because it's not thier product that is the actual conflicting device.
Descrive your specific setup. What type of highspeed service do you have. Provider, speed cap for upload and download, list your modem and or any other router or switch you have in line, list how your slingbox is connected (wired or wireless adapter, POE connection etc)?????
Just because it works at a higher speed with another variety router does NOT mean the DIR-655 is the issue. Have you ever though that something else in your network is capping the speed due to a conflict in settings between that device and the DIR-655's configuration menu?
Tech support for DLInk is not the keenest nor is Linksys for that matter. They are only as good as the tech who answers from India on the other end
I've got 2 ISPs at home at the moment (one Fiber 25/25 link, one Cable 10/3) both with different modems...and the only other network equip. behind the modem has been the DIR-655. (I've also had an ADSL connection before...with no luck). No PPoE, tried both wired and wireless.
No matter which one I'm using for the Slingbox SOLO(....it's only the SOLO that is affected - my other Slingboxes is fine) the speed is low, and the video transmission stops all the time (not sound though)
As soon as i swap out the Dlink for another Router (all the others I have works fine) link speed is fine. And remember this is just for a few clients. (probably 3-4 i have found). So it's probably an issue with their network card connecting to the Dlink/through the Dlink. (one of the clients i have tried from is a laptop...using both wireless&wired...and they both have the fault with the 655)
When it comes to Tech support....i usually don't find "western" tech agents much better than the rest (they're just easier to understand)
But i DID figure out that using the first (oldest) firmware from D-link, did somewhat fix the issue...but it was still not good enough for me (so I got myself another router)

If only modems, do they possess any sort of user configuration screen utility as there may be a conflict in there that is causing issues since the DIR-655 could possibly be set different then it needs to be in its configuration options.......????
Only simple modems...'bit strange if all my ISPs have/had this fault, but who knows.
And i don't really care anymore...My 655 is now living happily as a simple switch somewhere :-)
In my case it happens over the lan which has nothing to do with my ISP. It also only happens with the SOLO. I do not have this issue with the AV. You can watch for about 30 seconds before the video will freeze. You can either wait 30 more seconds for the video to come back or you hit a remote button in SlingPlayer to get the video back. I verified this on two different Vista machines. The router is setup with the default settings except WPA is turned on. I have upgraded the firmware with the latest updates and the issue still persists.
I also have the 655 and have the same video freeze problem. Here's all the relevant info:
1. I have Verizon Fios and had no problems with the Slingbox when using Verizon's router. The problem only began when I hooked up the D-Link.
2. Basically what happens is every 10 minutes or so the video freezes for about 2-3 seconds. Audio continues fine during this period.
3. I have a Slingbox Pro and a Slingbox A/V and have the same problem with both. Also, the problem exists from many different locations and on many different computers.
I'm really hoping this can be fixed. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Out of curiosity, what is the best "N" router to use with Slingbox?
Just a heads up to those with slowness and freezing issues - I had them too and gave up on the Dir-655. I checked today saw that there is a new firmware, version 1.20 dated 7/21/2008 and decided to flash it give it a try again. It worked. No no more freezing every 5-6 minutes! My nice white router is back in action.
Are you sure about that firmware? I've just checked D-Link's site, and the latest version they're showing is the 12/18/2007 1.11 version, which is the same firmware that the router software pulls up as the latest version.
Would love to find a 1.20, as I'm also having the freezing.
