Hi,

I just purchased the slinglink turbo 1 port today.  I'm testing it out right now before hooking it up to rest of my network.  I have the slinglinks working, so i want to add security setting.  I downloaded slinglink utility 1.1 from the website but I'm having trouble installing it.  When i double-clicked the install file, it show a pop-up "error fail to open exe:" when i click OK, a Chilkat Zip Self-extractor prompt pops up as me where i would like to unzip the files to.  I chose a folder on my desktop and click up, but when i go to that folder its empty. So i'm stuck don't know what to do...anyone who could help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, I already call tech support twice, their indian call center is a bunch of $#@% idiots.  They have zero knowledge of their products, one guy wanted to remote access my laptop, when i refused, he hang up on me.  The second guy was clueless, after putting me on hold, then blame my computer and ask me to contact my computer manufacturer!!

Has anyone successfully install slinglink utility?  Please let me know  If i can't get security working... i will just return it to best buy.

Do you have other Powerline adapters on your network? That's the only reason I see a need for that utility. If you have complete control of your network connections I think it's pretty safe to go w/o encryption. Also, you would be adding an additional complication to your network. Keep it Simple.

As for why it doesn't work. I'm assuming you've met the minimum requirements.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Only
Pentium IV 1GHz
256MB RAM
100MB Free Hard Disk Space
Ethernet Network Connectivity
SlingLink TURBO 4-PORT, SlingLink TURBO 1-PORT, or SlingLink

As another side note, Some .exe files can be dropped on WinZip and extracted manually.

Hi Phil,

thanks for the quick feedback.  This pair of slinglink is my own powerline adapter in the house.  I know  the added security is not really necessary but i just a little paranoid.

Thanks for reminding me again about the minimum requirements.  I meet them all except for the CPU, I have a pentium-m 1.4gz.  So I just try on my sisters thinkpad t60, it was able to install the slinglink utility.  I can't believe the software locked me out because i did have a P4 in my original computer!!

Do you know if there's any info on how to config slinglink utility?  thanks!
