Sling is forcing their firmware down your throat. The sling player constantly wants you to upgrade. So I finally gave in, and upgraded my firmware from the out of the box firmware to the newest available firmware.
I "WAS" slinging with a Viewsat Pro PVR I used the remote code S2047. It worked great. After the upgrade the code no longer worked, I ended up working with a sling tech, he used "logme in" to see what was going on, then he determined that it was a bug in the firmware that they know about. I asked if I can send it back for another, they said no because I upgraded the firmware. What the hell is that??? I asked if I can downgrade, they said its not possible. I asked him if I had a useless brick and he said, here fill out this form and "MAYBE" well put it in our next firmware upgrade. So now I have nothing, and support didn't help me. If you don't believe me I have the conversation saved, I'll PM it to you if you want.
Sling has a great product but horrible support, they don't even read their own forums, these forums are slingers helping slingers. Anyway, don't end up like me. Don't upgrade your firmware, sling won't support you, or help you! I'm a prime example. Consider yourself warned!

Sorry, Dave but I never seen a response from a sling media tech. I have always seen responses from other members. All I have ever seen were people nagging and not getting answeres. I apologize if I offeneded, I was obviously wrong. I appreciate whatever help you can give. I PMed you the log of the conversation I had with the tech, but I don't have a case number.

I have had a slingbox Pro since a year ago last Dec. I keep getting
the upgrade firmware message but have not done it for fear of having
problems. My sling from what I can tell works fine so I don't know
what the upgrade does good or bad.
Should I upgrad or stay at current working level. What I would like
is just an upgrade of working device codes only. For that matter a good
hardware upgrade would be a LEARNING mode and not have to worry about
codes.
