I bought the solo for my dad so he can keep up with local sports when traveling for work. They only have one cable box and it gets used by others in the family. I thought when I bought it I could connect it directly to basic cable but doesn't have a coax input. Is there a way?

You can pick up a video converter box at Radio Shack. Will convert the coax to RCA.

Nope.. you want another Box.

1. Slingbox Pro
2. Slingbox Tuner
3. Slingbox Classic

Those have tuners built into them. The problem with SlingMaster's solution is everyone will be watching the same channel at the same time. You want a box with it's own tuner to avoid that.

Phil is correct. FYI, the Slingbox Classic is not available in stores any longer but only used. The Pro and Tuner should be available in all stores. The Tuner though is also a model that is being phased out so you might find those kinda scarce as well. The Pro sounds like way more than you need. I would suggest trying to find a Tuner. It will work well.

Slinging with a Slingbox Pro, a Slingbox Solo and a Slingbox Classic. 3 Replay TV units, a Roku HD1000 Photobridge and a Roku M2000 Soundbridge, an AppleTV, a Vudu, and digital cable. www.na9d.net

I don't understand the same channel same time scenario. In my house I have the incoming cable split to eight locations. only one location has a comcast cable box. the other tv's are what I call basic cable just the coax right to the tv. I am able to watch different channels in all locations. Are you saying the solo can't read the cable signal on it's own like a tv?

The solo can *NOT* read the cable signal on it's own like a tv. It would be able to read a video signal only and send that signal over the internet. So if you get an adapter like SlingMaster's suggested, you would watch whatever was currently showing on the cable box that is connected to the Slingbox.

What you want is something with it's own tuner, so you can split the signal like you're doing with the other 7 locations in your house. Either that or you'll have to plug it into a new cable box or a VCR with a tuner.

ahh a vcr, never thought of that! I think i have a couple of those dinosaurs laying around.

Thanks for the info. Apparently the word solo has taken on new meaning since I've left school.Laughing
