I have Slingbox AV that I use with a Powerbook. The Slingbox works fine at home and remotely. For some reason when I visit my in-laws I can't connect the slingbox. I've even tried to download the software to their computer but that doesn't work either. I always get a connection error. If I go down the street to the Starbucks near their house it works fine. They have a password protected linksys router with DSL through the Northern Pittsburgh telephone company. I am able to connect to the internet just not the Slingbox. Any idea why this doesn't work? Thanks

It sounds to me like their ISP (the DSL company) may have some really tight security measures in place which blocks all but the standard ports. That's the only thing I can think of.

You might want to try doing a direct connection as opposed to the finder ID. If you know your WAN IP at home, try putting that into the SlingPlayer settings and do a direct connection. See if it works that way.

When you leave, make sure you go back to using the Finder ID. If you have direct connection set up on your Mac when you get back home on the WAN, the experience won't be very good - choppy video, slow streaming and the like. It's a bug in the program that I have found and reported to SlingMedia numerous times...

My Slingbox is located at my sister's house.

Recently, she was able to connect to it locally and remotely, however, I couldn't connect to it remotely from my house.  My innernets was working fine.  For grins I recycled the newly installed Comcast cable modem/VOIP thingy and my Linksys router and that fixed the problem.
