I was hoping someone would say oh it's going to be Friday..... Just thought since they had a working unit at the show that after a couple months it might be ready to go.
Sometime this year could be 12/31/08
Sorry, couldn't resist it. That's all I've seen..
With Sling, sometime this year could turn into next year. On the bright side, when they take a long time they turn out a good product..

A working demo in a controlled environment at a trade show and a fully functional client are very different things. It's likely going to be second half of the year (late Q3 or early Q4 is my bet).

Wish you were a bit more optimistic, NA9D!
We're still working on the Berry client and I can verify it won't be released this Friday, but it will be released this year. Someone did spot the SlingPlayer on additional handsets in Barcelona a few weeks ago, though...

Hey Dave,
I'm optimistic it will be this year! :)
I'd rather underpromise or get people to set lower expectations and have them be pleasantly surprised by a release earlier than expected rather then set the expectation of "soon" and not have it happen until "later."
:)

Even if we offered up a pre-release Blackberry client today, you wouldn't have the RIM firmware necessary to make it work. It's a collaborative and iterative process, and unfortunately we don't have a firm target date yet. Though, we do feel confident we'll get it out the door this year.

Well I'm running 4.5 OS on my 8320 which is comparable to the new OS on the 8120 which means I could run it if a beta was released.
To the person who is jealous because his friend with WinMobile has SlingPlayer: Move to Windows Mobile. :)

I too, can't wait for a BB SlingPlayer. But would rather wait for a good setup, than a buggy one.
Thanks for the heads up Dave!
Have a Sansa device or MP3 player, then check out The latest!

I wouldnt be jealous of a friend running WinMO.
Its now almost July, any more word on the Blackberry version... I am really dying.....
The Blackberry client is still in development, we're working with RIM and waiting on the release of some dependencies. The best thing to do is to maintain a current beta profile at https://beta.slingmedia.com/ and make sure to list the Blackberry under the Test Platforms so that it comes up when we begin recruiting testers. We're as eager to get this released as you are to have it, so it will be released to testing as soon as we're permitted.

This policy that SlingMedia has adopted is one of the worst I've ever seen!! All they ever tell their customers is "wait", "any day now", "it's working, see, but you can't have it", "no we're not telling you anything". You're doing nothing but frustrating all your current users and potential customer base. The minute a comparable product is on the market, you bet you'll lose a ton of customers. I hate to see such a great product blown by the PR department... WEAK!!!! TALK TO US!!! TELL US WHAT'S GOING ON!!!! If it's going to be another year, just get the guts to tell us. Honestly, this is getting ridiculous.
We've told you what is going on - it is being worked on. There are other threads here with much more recent posts than this one. That's all there is to say, we'll announce dates when we have dates to announce. We can't announce what we don't have yet, no matter how badly anyone wants us to. Unless you'd prefer we announce a date way out in the future then just release it before that date anyway.
This is why sometimes I think we should deny working on anything until the day it ships. Which is generally how Apple works. But then people would complain that we didn't let them know it was coming and they went and bought some other phone, etc, and if they'd known they would've waited.
What's going on is ongoing development. Until there is something more concrete to announce that's where it stands. We're not going to detail every step of the process in public, not only would that be revealing too much, we also have to consider our partners, like RIM.

I totally understand where you're coming from. Your example of Apple is one reason why I have a Blackberry and don't support Apple's business model / tactics. Just venting after waiting so long for the SlingCatcher too... found another solution that isn't as slick, but works... now it's harder to justify the SlingCatcher to the boss now :( Working on that one ;o)
