... looks great .... when this due out ... Q2 2009 !!!!!

April 23, 2008 9:12 PM

Sorry if I'm missing something that's already been addressed elsewhere . . . but it looks from the image of the back that this only has one audio input. Looks like 4 video (Composite, S- and 2 x Component) plus a L-R audio.

I realize that's the way the Solo and the original Slingbox work, but the Slingbox Pro (not HD) has audio inputs for each video so that you can actually run multiple sources. The strangest thing about the image above is that there's no reason I can think of to have TWO component inputs when you only have one set of audio.

So what am I missing?

bizarre... don't forget the coaxial input on the lower right

Slinging with SlingBox Pro - Motorola DVR (Comcast) and analog tuner (SlingBox)

Will the HD Pro video quality be different than the HD connect that is currently an add-on for the Slingbox Pro?

June 7, 2008 2:50 PM

It's advertised as being able to sling full HD quality. The HDConnect simply allows you to connect to an HD box.

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

Why is it that this box has 2 sets of component inputs, but only 1 set of audio inputs? I thought the days of having to use an audio splitter were behind us.

That seems a bit strange since you can clearly connect to an HD box without HDConnect. I do that with my Slingbox AV and my Slingbox Pro. I just connect via S-Video. So I wonder what the HDConnect actually does???

This has been debated ever since the Pro came out, and before the HDC came out. Some boxes don't output menus, guides, etc on the SD outputs when the HD output is used. There are some boxes that don't output the SD at all when the HD is used. I think I get a little better quality out of the component input.

There's been some conversation about the pics that were released. I think these might actually be wrong, it's supposed to have a digital audio input too. There are some different pics in another thread.

To clear things up, the Slingbox PRO-HD is designed to accept three simultaneous inputs.
1. Coaxial RF, which will support ATSC and Clear QAM
2. SD Video - Composite or S-Video with an associated stereo audio input set.
3. HD Video - Component with an associated stereo audio input set or coaxial digital audio

There is also the unsupported 'hack' or connecting sources to both the composite video and the S-Video, and connecting *both* sources to the same stereo audio input - just making sure only one device is on at a time. That could give you four inputs. (Some people do this with the Solo, etc, already, for multiple devices.)

I'm not sure of the origins of the photo, but the rear of the box is NOT what the actual product has.

As for the Slingbox PRO and HD Connect. The PRO only slings at SD resolution (640x480), unlike the PRO-HD which is designed to sling up to full HD. The HD Connect accepts HD input, but it down-samples that input to SD before it is encoded for slinging. Since you're starting with a higher quality signal you can get a higher quality encoded stream than using one of the SD inputs. And, as has been mentioned, some STBs disable their SD outputs when the HD output is in use. So users don't always have the option of feeding their TV via HD and a Slingbox via SD.

And the Slingbox PRO-HD is still slated to be out this year.

Thanks for clearing that up. BTW, photos are from the Sling Media site. http://www.slingmedia.com/docs/CP/1333/ProHD_BACK.jpg

Huh, I'm guessing that was a Photoshop mock-up. The basic port layout is like that, only in that photo you see what seems to be two sets of component video inputs. Replace one of those with stereo audio and coaxial digital audio (same kind of connectors).

No HDMI? You got to be kidding...... You need at least 1*HDMI-in and 1*HDMI-out on this highend box... Besides, HDMI really saves the spaces you needed on the back of Slingbox....

I think this has more to do with Copy protection more than anything else.

HDMI would be worthless due to HDCP.  We could not legally stream an HDCP protected signal - which is just about *all* HDMI connections in the real world.

this would be slinging in h.264, correct?

The funniest thing about that picture is the "S-Video" ports are using color coordinated PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse connectors.

And the antenna out looks like a BNC coax.

Clear QAM???  Efen sweet!  I use one of my Slingboxes for Music Choice to my car which are Clear QAM channels.  I can give one cable box back and save some money!
