at first I thought the pro was needed.

I only have 1 cable box but it would be in conflict many times during the day so I need a different input(regular coax) and just use basic cable the rest of the time.

Now I'm thinking I could get a SOLO and a Tuner for cheaper than just getting a pro+HD cable.

Is there any downfall to doing this?  Is the coax connection on the pro going to be a better quality than the tuner?  Also, is it a problem at all to switch connections on the same computer from one slingbox to another?

 Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying you are looking to purchase 2 differnet Slingboxes?  I think that might be more hassle than it's worth.  You are talking about setting up 2 Sling's on the same network, it's doable but I am not sure it's worth the effort honestly.  I'd go for the Pro I think it'd make you happier.  Are you looking to Sling your HD content?  If that's not your #1 concernt just use a s-video cable to your cablebox and you will still get all your channels including HD channels just not at the best quality.  just my 2 cents....

Slingbox Pro Slinging Comcast cable and HD via Comcast HSI using AirLink Powerline adapters; Slingbox Classic Slinging Sunddenlink Analog Cable and D* HR21 via Sunddenlink HSI, using Linksys Gaming adapter.

I'm looking to get 2 input sources(1 will be HD) the cheapest way.

Looks like I could get a Tuner for $65 and a SOLO for $135, while a pro would cost $185+$40 for the HD cable.

Plus if my wife and I ever wanted to use both at the same time on 2 different computers, we could do that.

If the Solo is HD. Then two boxes is the way to go to get two people on at the same time. But, remember, you'll be sharing the upload bandwitdth between the two boxes. So, unless you have massive bandwidth, the quality will suffer.

thanks for the answers

One question not answered is about the tuner quality.  Is there much of a dropoff from the pro coax input to the tuner coax input?  Picture quality that is.

If you're using the coax input there should be very little difference in quality. Especially if you're viewing it remotely. Unless you can get more than 3-5mb/s in upload speed you'll never get the same quality you would get as if watching from a LAN connection. And that's just from one box. If you have two, double that bandwidth.

OK, thanks for the help, I would be watching the coax over a LAN when someone else is using the main TV.  Otherwise I would use the HD connection.

Seems like it is the smarter way to go since it gives me everything I want plus the possibility of having 2 people watch at the same time, plus it is cheaper.  I only have 1 cablebox which is why the tuner would be my second connection.

And the only time I can see the need for 2 of us to be watching at the same time would be if they ever release this for the iphone.  In which case the quality would not have to be that great.

BTW, I have a 1 mb/s upload speed at home.

Seriously.. I'm waiting for an iPhone client myself. I'll take any kind of quality at this point.
