I have the option to choose a new cell provider and new phone. I need email, calendar capability and prefer a full keyboard on the unit.
What would be the best device/provider to utilize SlingPlayer Mobile?

I'm currently in the same boat as gtadell. Any suggestions on sling friendly mobile devices and/or providers would be greatly appreciated. Does sling currently work with Verizon?
Anything but T-Mobile is a start, T-Mobile's EDGE is simply too slow for acceptable video. As I recall, Verizon's "unlimited" data really isn't unlimited and when you're talking about Sling, you're talking about having to watch that ceiling. Personally, I use Sprint. It's more than fast enough for the mobile Slingplayer and the Touch phone works pretty well. There's also no ceiling on their unlimited data package.
yeah verizon's "unlimited" is unlimited access to e-mail / news not something as data intensive as sling.
The BlackJack II from AT&T fits your requirements. It has a full keyboard, it doesn't have the poor video performance of the current crop of HTC devices (Mogul / Touch), it's very fast on 3G (check your area for ATT 3G coverage), it is slim and "pocketable" (something my Verizon 6700 was not), and AT&T has a "soft cap" 5GB/month data limit, meaning they don't charge for usage above that, but might ask you to leave if you routinely go significantly above that limit. While Slinging to your phone can use lots of data, I find I very seldom get anywhere near the 5GB with my occasional usage pattern. My alternative suggestion would be the Touch (Sprint or Verizon, but Sprint has the cheapest and best data plan). It is a great form factor, but it does lack a keyboard. The Mogul is really big and is just a pain to carry...I carried the 6700 for 2 years and it got really old.
Anyone have any idea how much Sling you can watch in 5GB? I think that is what Verizon allows now on their "unlimited" data plan.
I just changed from an ATT 8125 to the Tilt. The reason I didn't go with the Blackjack is it doesnt have wifi, I like the idea if I am somewhere with wifi I can use it rather than the 3g. But, that being said I did want 3g you can watch a show on 3g using Edge was a bit tough but you could make it work.
Slingbox Pro Slinging Comcast Analog and HD via Comcast Internet using AirLink Powerline adapters; Slingbox Classic Slinging Sunddenlink Analog Cable and DirecTV HR21 via Sunddenlink Internet, using netgear powerline adapters.
I signed onto Sprint because of their unlimited data plan, and just two weeks of what I consider casual use (an hour or two a day) I've already incurred 2GB of data. I was looking into AT&T too because in all honesty Sprint's coverage is just not that great in my area (maybe I'm expecting too much, I don't know,) but I didn't realize AT&T has a soft cap of 5GB as well -- for the record, their Personal PDA Data Plan is stated as unlimited; but I haven't read the fine print. So I guess AT&T is out of the contention too, then.
I've read on other forums of people Slinging on Verizon's network without problems; I'm actually a VZW subscriber as well; but I refuse to pay the high price they charge for data (their new lower-tiered data plan supposedly has a 2GB limit instead of 5GB of the regular plan.) and but technically Slinging/streaming media a violation of VZW's TOS anyway.
I am still shopping though; my mother saw my SlingPlayer/Sprint Touch in action, now she wants one for herself. But she doesn't want to pay an additional monthly data plan, so I need to find an easy to use wifi device for her.
I would love to hear everyone's opinions about providers though. In my opinion phone is not the issue -- you're going to find a phone that works in the provider's network sooner or later -- but finding the right carrier with the best coverage and deal on data usage is essential to the Slingbox experience.
