Hi All,

I am running a SlingBox Pro and have been bugged by something that I hope you can help me with...

When I run the Sling client within my local area network, I am only able to acheive a streaming speed of about 3mbit... My SlingBox is connected to a 10/100 switch in my living room, which is connected to a 10/100 router in my office... All wired... And my client is run from a laptop that is hanging off the router (again, with a wired connection)...

Should'nt I be able to acheive a faster stream than 3mbit? Why isn't it 10, 25 or even 80mbit (assuming some inefficiencies in a 100mbit connection)?

Let me be clear...I am NOT having any problems using my SlingBox at all... This is really a matter of curiousity for me... Theoretically, shouldn't my stream speeds INSIDE my network be much quicker?

Thanks all!

The newer model SlingBoxes will stream up to 8 Mbps.  Take a look at this article and search for "LAN streaming".  Depending on your network, computer, and software settings the automatic settings usually won't go that high.  If you set your speeds manually you can get better.

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

Also, You've got to take into account the data that is coming into it. A DVD is still only a 6-10mbit/s stream a the maximum. And a full 720p HD stream is around 2.5x that at the peak. So 15-25mbit/s. It's really not that much.

Actually with the latest player version the max you can set, using manual settings is 6,000. But, most people will never get this on their LAN, if you are getting 4,000 that is probably (my guess)  about average.

But, 4,000 will give a nice picture. If set to automatic your speeds will vary based on what is playing on your TV.
