Hello,

For my current purposes, I only need a slingbox for analog cable. That is, can a pro box be used like an analog slingbox such that it is simply a pass through that will not change the channel of the tv that is connected to it, etc?

I am drawn to the pro box because I don't want something that will be useless in a year.

Thanks.

yes one of the four inputs for the pro is a coaxial input. You can plug it directly to the cable outlet from the wall. the pro has a built in tuner, so you would have total control and would not affect anybody wathcing any tv

Just FYI. Slingmedia is releasing a new Slingbox Pro HD. Which will be full HD resolution. It won't be out till later this fall though.

But, for your purposes with the coax input. The Pro will be more than enough.

If you want just a tuner, look for the Slingbox Tuner. It's not officially produced any longer, but you should be able to still find them out there...

will the pro HD version have the same price point? (around $200?)

I highly doubt that it will. It will probably be closer to the pricepoint of the pro when it was new. Around $300-400

The Pro was never that much. I bought mine before it even hit the streets for $220 or so and the HD-Connect dongle was another $50. It was probably at most $300. The ProHD is certainly going to be closer to $400 IMHO.

Unless you have a strong need to stream HD or tune ATSC channels, the tuner or Pro is a good way to go now..
