Okay... been searching for a long time and couldn't find any thread related to this issue.. Now, I'm at my witts end !!

I was able to successfully set up HOME viewing, but I for the life of me cannot get Remote Viewing going!!

I get the following message under the Activate Remote Viewing

" The slingbox can not be reached from the Internet "

I have tried Manual Settings - changed the IP and Port.. ; Reset the Slingbox ; Tried a different Router [ D-Link 624 ]

I am easily able to view it at home, but cannot set up remote viewing!! Frown

Once again, the set-up:

- Slingbox AV [ All three lights are lit up Red ]

- Linksys WRT54GL Firmware Version 4.30.12

- Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem Model SB5101

- Motorola Cable Box [ couldn't locate the model # ]

- ISP Time Warner

- Location Dallas-Fort Worth [Texas]

Please help!!! Cry

Given the setup diagrams from the user guide for the surfboard, it does it's own DCHP. When tied with the router, it sounds like you're double NAT'd.

You'll need to dig around in the setup screens for the Surfboard (usually these things have a web interface, but I haven't used it so hopefully someone else can chime in) and look to see if you can disable the DHCP router in the surfboard. If at the very least, put your Linksys router in the DMZ on the surfboard, and you should be able to view remotely if the Linksys port forwarding has been set up properly.

Or you can disable the router functions of your Linksys and just use it as a switch, but probably best if you do it the other way around.

Hey thanks for chiming in!.. the IP for Surfboard is 192.168.100.1 and DHCP is enabled.. However, I couldn't find a way to disable it..

Also, how do I DMZ the WRT on t he Surfboard... that's something I haven't looked into .. I guess because I didn't know how to !! Innocent

Thanks man!

hi. look i have the same problem, sling support told me i had a private ip addres. and my ports were closed, they asked me to contact my service provider and ask them to give me a public ip and open the ports, they told me their routers are always opened, and my router is mine. after many attempts what i did was to reset the router to the fatory default(open your router's page and go to administration- reset) and then run the remote view and this time it worked, now i tried to make it work at my work place yesterday but still no luck. i'll post my results tonight.but that did the trick to get remote viewing set up work, just reset your router to factory settings.

gourmetboy is on to something m5Rahul. The IP for it that you've listed is a private IP. You may need to work something out with your ISP.
