From DSLreports.com

A Comcast insider tells me the company is considering implementing very clear monthly caps, and may begin charging overage fees for customers who cross them. While still in the early stages of development, the plan — as it stands now — would work like this: all users get a 250GB per month cap. Users would get one free “slip up” in a twelve month period, after which users would pay a $15 charge for each 10 GB over the cap they travel. According to the source, the plan has “a lot of momentum behind it,” and initial testing is slated to begin in a month or two.

I'm certainly not open to overage fees for web service, even if 250GB a month is a 'fairly' high amount. But when you tack on legitimate other uses for downloading data (Vudu, Netflix On-Demand, XBOX Live! Gaming, etc) you'd be surprised how quickly it adds up. I, personally, don't want to be metered for web use like I am for water and electricity.

At least for the Slinger who travels the insider quoted in the article also says, "As far as I am aware, uploads are not affected, at least not initially." Good news for Slingbox owners, who eat through a lot of upload bandwidth when Slinging remotely. Even with that frosting cap, it's still bad news for consumers.

BOOOOO to Comcast... this certainly changes the definition of "Comcastic."

I agree...What is it with ISP's these days!? Throttling, capping, limiting bandwidth, etc. I'd be ok with a 500GB limit, but unlimited is what we all pay for...

My gear: T60p: 15" UXGA AFFS IPS Flexview, T7600 C2D 2.33GHz, Atheros AR5008 XSPAN (11a/b/g/n), ATI FireGL V5200 256MB, Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1, AVM 7270 DUAL-band 220-260Mbps, Slingbox PRO w/HD Connect, SlingMobile on 3G Treo 750.

Actually, I hope they do implement these caps. Why? Because then they'll create a clear demand for alternatives, and multiple businesses will spring up to fill that demand. Currently, these services are "good enough", so there's not much point in trying to compete with them. However, once they shoot themselves in the head with this kind of stupidity, either the market or legislation or a combination will hand them their own butts.

I can see both sides to this, you have some people that take advatage of their upload/download and have it go 24/7 for P2P software. Plus, you have familes with 2-5 computers, game systems, VOiP, and other services using up the bandwith. I would see plans where you pay for unlimited or they give you a "Deal" for a 2nd pipe coming into your home. Who knows where this will all shake out, guess we'll have to wait and see.
