I have a slingbox pro setup with a linksys wrt54gs flashed with 3rd party software

My issue is when trying to use a laptop in wireless mode I cannot stream from the lan

I can see the lan sling when it's busy and not but if I try watching I get the error :xxxxD

What's interesting is if I take this same laptop and wire it directly to the router it works no problem

Also if I do not use the finder Id and use the IP addy of the puter I stream no problem

so the issue is only streaming on local lan in wireless mode using the finder id

before anyone asks about firewalls they are all disabled I even disabled the firewall on the router

I have noticed this issue sometimes locks me totally from the sling remotely and then sometimes it's working again very agrivating

Well if you have all the Firewalls OFF, then must be something on the wireless connection, either on the router or on the PC, I have a Linksys WRT54G with the Slingbox for about two years, and I can use my Slingbox on the LAN, wired/wireless with no problem at all, if you think everithing is correctly setup, reset the router to factory settings, ans re-cofigure it, try it out, and if the problem persist, loan a friend laptop, load the Slingplayer on it and if it works, then you will know the computer is the problem, hopefully your computer is not a Vista laptop, because Windows Vista has wireless protocol problems, that apparently were solved on the Service Pack 1.

what's crazy is that it worked a week ago no problem
then i thought i would replace the router for better signal and that didn't work the way i planned so i'm back to the wrt54gs and its giving me problems

at first i couldn't even get it to configure then it configured but would not let me view in either lan mode or ip mode

than i unplugged the router and sling and it works now in ip mode but not wireless mode on the lan

sling tech support says it's a linksys issue

Well buddy, Sling support might be right, Linksys is one of the most User-friendly routers, and now you nail me telling me that it worked fine a week ago, than it should be something on the router for fact, do you called Linksys support already?

today i reset the slingbox and reset the router and it worked again
unfortunatelly for only about a couple of hours
I read in another thread that there seems to be a compatibility issue with certain linksys routers when connecting remotely i think this is issue is one of the same for I too have those issues on occasion. It's just lately that it doesn't want to work on wireless lan and will work in ip mode

slings people say hey the notebook will work if connected to the router by ethernet so it's deffinately a router issue

and linksys people just ask such stupid question like what is your ssid name and what channel are you using! I'm like it has nothing to do with my wireless connection it's fine its some protocol issue

I'm stumped but I can't live without out the wrt54gs I have it flashed with freeman and have it bumped up to the point I don't think there is a router out there that can give me the coverage it does

I'm sorry to hear that you get so much troubles with the Linksys people, I recently installed on my sister's network a Belkin router, brand new it cost me $50.00 on eBay, it works just fine, I can recommend you one of those, becasue personally I think is a good piece of hardware, however, if your Slingbox is working fine, your network too, and everything is the way it should be, just the Linksys router is the one with the problem Linksys people MUST help you and fix the problem, even if that means to replace you the router for a new one, don't let them just"drop" the problem, you should be enjoying your Slingbox as we all do...Courage my friend!

yesterday I did another slingbox setup this one including a classic and a wrt54g
I was able to view on the lan but not remotely.... am I missing something?

I know the port forwarding is relatively easy so what gives?

Do they have that big of an issue with Linksys routers

I just don't understand how a product that's been around for a few years could still have problems with certain manufacturers

I would think that if the slingbox was at a certain IP address and the port was open it would function

obviously i'm missing something

I've installed SB on netgears and with no problem and in fact most of the time the UPnP works without flaw.

I'm assuming that you are running dd-wrt on your linksys because you said 3rd party software. There are a few linksys routers that dd-wrt considered neutered. I forget the reasons but you are suppose to stay away from. I know this because I owned one. That router had problems that brainslayer had to work around. Also Linksys is almost the worst customer service ever. Dlink takes gold for that one. So if you want help goto www.portforward.com. What version linksys do you have? I think it is ver. 6 that is considered neutered. My point to all this if you do have that neutered version then the router has issues and you really should not trust the dhcp.

Run it static and assign the slingboxs ip address. Then you can port forward with assurance that your router is send everything to the correct place. Upnp is nice when it works, but that is the problem when it works. I had the same linksys and after a few years it finally died so I went with dlink dgl-4500. Cost a pretty penny but hasn't failed me yet. The only time it goes down is when I reboot it. But I would not recommend it because the dir-655 does everything mine does and cost a lot less. It just doesn't have wireless "n".

If you need help running your router static goto www.portforward.com. Great site to teach new people the ropes. Give an update when you make some progress.

The third-party software is Freeman. The Linksys version of the router is version 2.

Running the router in static mode means that I would manually assign all devices a local IP addy?

If that would fix the problem then I don't mind the extra work

thanks richie
