Hi,

Can anyone confirm whether a slingbox can be installed in Bulgaria (or indeed in any country NOT listed in the set up menu) for use with Bulgaria. Simply speaking I have a SKY box in one location in Bulgaria and want to use my slingbox to view SKY in another location. So far the installation set up has failed at the networking stage. Any help much appreciated.

As I told you in the last thread, check the picture mode, if the mode is SECAM where you are, then you might have a problem.

Hi Viper,

I am not sure what SECAM is all about but I am trying to set up my PACE SKY + box in Bulgaria to sling the signal elsewhere in Bulgaria. Does this make it any clearer? When I get to the section on the set up about using it from an external computer it simply says unable to connect?

Hi By the way I have openned all the ports as instructed etc. A friend of mine familiar with all this has assisted me and he now says that he doesn't want to delver deeper into the problem until he knows for sure that the Slingbox can be used in Bulgaria.

Hi guys. Yes, Slingbox can be used in Bulgaria, as long as your broadband speeds are sufficient. The SECAM colour system was abandoned in Bulgaria in the 1990s, which is just as well, as there are no SECAM Slingboxes (Many SECAM countries have switched to PAL in recent years, in any case). Bulgaria now also uses the PAL system - which is used by the overwhelming majority of countries around the world. So just make sure that your Slingbox is the PAL version (and not NTSC!)...

Well, Gary3, I am afraid that I will have to contradict you. The NTSC Slingboxes work with PAL TV signal (I am speaking about the second generation - tuner, pro). I do have a PRO that works very well: it slings from Romania and I am watching in Montreal. The box is (declared) NTSC but it handles PAL tv signal as well as PAL a/v signal.
gabba, there have been reports about the UK version working in Russia (SECAM). I have checked and Bulgaria has really passed to PAL, therefore you should not have any problem at all in tuning PAL signal or using PAL a/v signal. On the other hand, the tuner,s setup can be done without affecting the WAN settings. Just try to setup the tuner chosing Bulgaria first (if it,s on the list) if not do it chosing Switzerland, India, Israel, Romania, or Germany. For the SKY box, I just wish you good luck - I do not have one, but I,ve heard that some people have little problems in setting up the remote control functions for it. Now, in a few words : PAL, SECAM and NTSC are different TV color standards and a device working with only one of them can not properly display a signal of a different kind. Fortunately, Slingbox (second generation) handles NTSC and PAL.

Q, it's a Slingbox PRO. There are other fellow Romanians with PROs and they are all working well. So, just buy one from WalMart (in the USA; in Canada-I don't know where is it cheaper)and send it ot Bulgaria. My first router was a Dlink 602 . I had problems with it (slowing, breaking the connection, freezing) and now I have a Trendnet 632TEW. Do not hesitate to send me a private message, if needed. I will do all my best to guide you. Anyway, if you buy and install your PRO, do not make any update right away. Good luck.
