I ahve a general idea of how the slingbox work. What I would like to do is bring a slingbox back to china and be able to watch the channels they have there back at home in Canada. My question is will I be able to watch seperate channels from what my relatives in china are watching at the same time. That sounded kind of confusing so what I mean is will I be able to change the channel to say channel 5 while they watch channel 6? Or is this more of a I will be able to watch only what they are watching and if I change the channel they must watch whatever I changed the channel to as well. Thanks in advance

BumRush,
The Slingbox would have to be in Canada where the channels are you want to watch.
depending on how you set it up and your A/V source makes a difference on if they have to watch the same thing you are.

You would watch on a computer, so it would not affect anything they are watching in China.

Thanks for the reply. But what I want to watch is the channels provided in china not Canada. Would't I leave the slingbox in china so when I come back home to Canada I would still be able to view the chinese programming?

Okay, I had it right the first time. Yes this will work. The SlingBox and the host system can be set to different stations - assuming the SlingBox has a separate tuner - not all models do.

The other cautionary note is that there are at least two different standards in use in different parts of the world for TV broadcasts. Be sure you find the correct SlingBox to support the Chinese standard. Others on the forum can probably help you identify the correct box.

That's correct, assuming you have analogue cable TV in China. If a setup box is involved ( satellite TV, digital TV,...) you will need a second one otherwise you and your relatives will indeed have to watch the same channel.
