I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. What platform are you on?
I have had my slingbox working fine for approximately six months, except a few weeks ago, I tried to install some hardware to get extra connections near my Slingbox Pro (a second router). I have since dropped this idea, as nothing seemed to work right through the two router connection.
Nevertheless, since I changed the connection my Sling has been acting very strange. It is now hardwired back into the first router as per the original set up, yet I can not find it on the LAN in the Slingbox chooser page. Even when I wrote down the finder ID, I could not connect. So I decided to reset it back to factory defaults. This worked well, and after I had finished programming the HD input, I tried to program the coaxial input, and the blue box that showed the display got stuck with a "starting" message and never changed. Also the light that comes on when the machine is slinging to another connection turned off. After cancelling the coax setup, I looked at the component settings I had previously entered, and I got the same blue screen with "starting" message. However, the tv input (running through the sling) still displayed perfectly. Confused, I reset my sling and tried to reprogram it, only to have an amount of time pass before all inputs stopped again.
I have tried leaving IP static and dynamic, forwarding port 5001 to a static IP, and even putting the Slingbox into a DMZ. None of this had any positive effect on getting a signal from the Box after the first few minutes after a reset.
Win XP Pro. I reinstalled software once. I'll try that again when I get home. Any other ideas?
Sometimes windows gets a little nuts. Try setting of up with another computer. That helps sometimes.
Interesting. Will do. Should XP Home vs. XP Pro vs. Vista matter, I have a choice of any of the above in the house. Will run almost exclusively to XP Pro laptop though. Also, could that be a hardware issue? I have always had the Box behind a surge protector but crap happens.
You shouldn't use the Finder ID for local connections, that's just for remote connections. Similarly your shouldn't need port forwarding for local connections.
The PC and Slingbox are on the same LAN subnet, correct?
And yes, if could be a hardware problem, it does happen.
-MegaZone, Sling Media Beta Manager
Slingbox Pro, HD Connect, TiVo Series3, TiVo Pioneer DVR-810H, SPM Treo 680, SP WinXP
(I also run GizmoLovers.com)
Yes, PC and Slingbox are on same LAN subnet. Yet after that initial five or so minutes, the Slingbox disappears from the "choose your Slingbox" list, the light that indicates slinging shuts off, and any connection I did have dies. So I tried the Finder ID to see if that worked and got nothing.
Any suggestions on how to see if it is a hardware issue? The Slingbox works for that five minute period perfectly. Even after that, the component video passes through the HD Dongle fine.
How long is the warranty on a Slingbox Pro?
Hmm... I guess I miss read your original post. I thought you were having setup problems only. Now that I read more, it might be other problems. Is the slingbox well ventilated? Does it sit on top of other equipment directly?
Sounds to me like a hardware issue.
But to get this right, you reset the Slingbox. Got both lights on, you connect to the slingbox and you can watch it for 5 mins and then it disconnects and only 1 light is on?

No, the power light and network connection lights are both on. The light in the sling symbol is the only one off.
So I finally got back to this today, and I uninstalled software, unplugged sling for an hour or so, and then reinstalled software with upgrade and then plugged in sling. One thing I noticed during the installation is that the sling said it was connected through a port outside my dhct (it was set for 192.168.0.258 or so, and the range is supposed to be 100-200). The Sling is supposed to be MAC address locked into 192.168.0.182, and I changed those settings when given a choice. Now my problem is the error message saying the connection attempt failed, make sure the slingbox is set up for remote viewing, and not blocked by firewall/NAT. Also, I tried to upgrade the firmware and it said that upgrade firmware should be done within the network and not over the internet. Now the Sling is hardwired into my D-Link DIR 635 and my computer (laptop) is connected to network, able to change D-Link settings page, and able to see other computers within Workgroup.
Also, I followed the tutorial to forward port 5001 to the Slingbox within the Router page here (http://support.slingmedia.com/get/network-assistant.html) NAT is open. Light still comes on for a few seconds then turns off on Sling.
Is this a hardware issue? Sling worked before I tried and then untried adding a hub between the two. Settings have since been reversed.
Do you have two routers on your network? Or two devices that have DHCP serving enabled?
No. That is what left me scratching my head. Also the router had nothing from either port (the one reported by slingbox or the one set into router configuration) in its log.
Is there a place on the website to check warranty information?
Nothing from either port? Port 5001? Or are you talking about IP addresses? It's confusing when you mix terminology.
I have a quick question. What is the internal IP address of the following.
1. Router
2. Laptop
3. Slingbox
Are all of them using static IP addresses?
Yes I meant IP addresses. Apologize for the mixing terms. Although there is no activity either to the IP addresses listed below, or to any IP address on port 5001.
Router is 192.168.0.1
Laptop is 192.168.0.198
Slingbox is supposed to be 192.168.0.182, and was changed to this
Slingbox originally activated as 192.168.0.258
